VDI Client Install for PC: 32 & 64 Bit BEFORE INSTALLING A few assumptions are being made- o You know how to use your computer. This includes how to adjust settings and preferences, download and install software, and generally how to function on your computer. o Your computer is (generally speaking) a current model, with a current Operating System. VDI will not install and run on some older operating systems. We also assume it is a Windows or Apple operating system. As a campus, we do not support Linux. There may be individuals at the Help Desk who are fluent in Linux and able to help you, there may not be. If you are a remote student away from campus, we have no support for your other operating system o If you do not know how, or otherwise need assistance, and are in the Rexburg area, please bring your computer to the Computer Help Desk in the McKay building. If you are a remote student and not in the area, you will find it beneficial to find a computer savy friend to walk through the install process with you. You may call the Help Desk for assistance, but typically the call taker will make a ticket and route it to an IT Engineer. However the logistics of location may limit what we can do to help you. First of all, you will want to know which system type your Windows version is. There are two kinds, 64 bit and 32 bit. Most new computers are 64 bit, but it’s good to check. To find out, click on the start button then right click “Computer,” and click “properties.” This will load a page of the basic information about your computer. About half way down, it will show you your system type (32 or 64 bit operating system). This information will be good to know for downloads here and in the future as downloads are often specific to your system type. Bring up a web browser and type the following in the URL: https://vdiview.byui.edu

BEFORE INSTALLING – A few assumptions are being made-

o You know how to use your computer. This includes how to adjust settings and

preferences, download and install software, and generally how to function on your

computer.

o Your computer is (generally speaking) a current model, with a current Operating

System. VDI will not install and run on some older operating systems. We also

assume it is a Windows or Apple operating system. As a campus, we do not

support Linux. There may be individuals at the Help Desk who are fluent in Linux

and able to help you, there may not be. If you are a remote student away from

campus, we have no support for your other operating system

o If you do not know how, or otherwise need assistance, and are in the Rexburg

area, please bring your computer to the Computer Help Desk in the McKay

building. If you are a remote student and not in the area, you will find it beneficial

to find a computer savy friend to walk through the install process with you. You

may call the Help Desk for assistance, but typically the call taker will make a

ticket and route it to an IT Engineer. However the logistics of location may limit

what we can do to help you.

First of all, you will want to know which system type your Windows version is. There are two

kinds, 64 bit and 32 bit. Most new computers are 64 bit, but it’s good to check. To find out, click on the

start button then right click “Computer,” and click “properties.” This will load a page of the basic

information about your computer. About half way down, it will show you your system type (32 or 64 bit

operating system). This information will be good to know for downloads here and in the future as
