COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for the sensitive educator wanting to gain understanding of the ever- changing cultural diversity of the students in today's schools. Participants will explore the ethnic and cultural groups in the community environments in which their pupils live. The fusion of cross-cultural customs and values will be presented. Study tours to culturally enriching sites will be taken to give in-depth understanding of the varied language ability, cultural heritage and historical backgrounds of our students. A broad range of cultural similarities and differences will be covered. 2. “COMMON CORE EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES” STARTS MON., APR. 16 WHEN: MONDAY: APRIL 16 - 4:00 to 5:00 PM WHAT: EDUX 5760 A, B, C, OR D MONDAY: MAY 21 - 4:00 to 5:00 PM This course requires 45 hours of class sessions*, outside practicum, research and active instructional learning. *Dates to be determined at first class session. COURSE DESCRIPTION: In this course participants will learn how to translate the common core standards into practice. They also will work on strategies to accelerate student achievement. Participants will summarize and evaluate research on the course topic, actively engage in related activities, and establish future goals for their students and classrooms.
