Proceedings of the Board of Studies (Under Graduate) in History

A meeting of the Board of Studies (UG) History was held at the Department of History, Himachal

Pradesh University, Shimla on 20 December 2016 from 11.30 a.m. onwards. The following members

were present:

1. Dr Amrit Varsha Gandhi, Chairperson, Department of History, Himachal Pradesh University

(Convenor).

2. Ms Chetana Rana, Associate Professor, Govt College Panarsa, Mandi, H P

The following decisions were taken:

Agenda: Offering an option of a Minor Elective Course in VI Semester to those students who have

studied this subject up to V Semester for becoming eligible for a undergraduate degree (CBCS

introduced in 2013) having passed 6 Minor Elective Courses in two subjects thus earning 24 credits in

each of the two subjects (i. e. 48 credits in total).

Decision:

1. The BoS (Under Graduate) decided that the Major Core Course XIII titled as ‘Environmental

History of India’ (Code CC: BA/Hist0613) would be as Minor Elective Course No 6 in the

VI Semester for the academic session commencing from July 2014-2015. The code of the

Minor Elective Course No 6 would remain the same (i. e. BA/Hist0613).

Agenda: Regarding the distribution of marks for End Semester Examination (ESE) and Continuous

Comprehensive Assessment (CCA).

Decision: The distribution of marks for End Semester Examination (ESE) and Continuous

Comprehensive Assessment (CCA) would remain in the ratio of 70:30 for the academic session

commencing from July 2015 (See Annexure I).

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the Chair.

ANNEXURE II

Instructions for Class Teachers for Conducting Minor Tests 1 and 2 and

Evaluation of Tutorial/Home Assignments

Note: Time allowed for conducting Minor Test 1 and 2 shall be 1.30 hours

each.

(A). Mode of Conducting Minor Test 1 and Minor Test 2: (15 marks each, i. e. 15x2=30 marks).

Minor Test 1 will be conducted after the completion of 48 teaching days (8 weeks) and Minor Test 2

after 90 teaching days (15 weeks). Minor Test 2 shall cover the second half of the course covered after

Minor Test 1. Three types of questions will be set in Minor Test 1 and 2:

1. Ten MCQ (either choice 1 out of 3 or True/False type of questions) of ½ mark each=5 marks.

2. Two questions of short answer-type in about 150 words each of 2.5 marks=5 marks.

3. One question of about 900 words, carrying 5 marks=5 marks.

Total marks (1+2+3) = 5+5+5 =15 marks.

(B). Distribution of marks for evaluation of Tutorial/Home Assignment:

1. 5 marks are assigned for the quality of contents and structure of the assignment.

2. 5 marks are assigned for the clarity of language of the script (English or Hindi) and its

presentation in the classroom.

3. 5 marks are assigned for defending the assignment in the classroom or in group discussion.

Total marks (1+2+3) = 5+5+5 =15 marks.

Distribution of Marks for CCA in each course in each semester:

1. Minor Test 1=15 marks

2. Minor Test 2=15 marks

3. Tutorial/Home Assignment=15 marks

4. Attendance=5 marks

Total= 15+15+15+5=50 marks.

ANNEXURE III

Paper Setting Scheme for End-semester Examination: 50 marks

Note: The End Semester Examination shall be of 3 hour duration

INSTRUCTIONS

1. For Paper Setters: The question paper will consist of five sections: A

(Compulsory), B (UNIT-I), C (UNIT-II, D (UNIT III) and E (UNIT-IV). Section A

will be Compulsory.

(a): Section A (Compulsory) will consist of two parts:

Part I shall consist of a single question with 10 short answer-type questions of 1

mark each (MCQ or True/False or Fill in the blanks), i. e. 10x1=10 marks.

Part II shall consist of 4 short answer-type questions of 2 marks each (4x2=8). The

questions shall be asked in a manner that will cover the entire syllabus and shall

carry (10+8) =18 marks (36% of the total marks of the end term examination for

the course).

(b): Sections B, C, D and E shall have two questions each from the respective

four units and sub-units of the syllabus, and each question will carry 8 marks

(8x4=32 marks) equivalent to 16% of the total marks of the end term

examination for the course. Student has to attempt 1 question from each section.

Total marks (A+B+C+D+E) =18+8+8+8+8 = 50 marks.

2. For Candidates: Candidates are required to attempt five question in all selecting

one question from each of the section B, C, D and E of the question paper and all the

sub-parts of the questions in section A.
