Vaasa offers a new logistic conceptVaasa offers a new logistic concept
Seize the opportunity. Air, road, rail and sea trans port
will be effectively combined in Vaasa. Vaasa Airport
Logistics Center (VALC) is located right next to
Vaasa airport and will be supported by a land traffi c
logistics center with own rail traffi c loading area and
an improved road connection to the port, which is
only 10 kilometres away.
The construction of this new air cargo logistics
center is initiated in 2010.
Nordic Logistic Center (NLC) in Umeå, Sweden
offers an ideal supportive partnership for east-west
transport. Specifi cally important is the access to
good railway connections to Northern Scandinavia.
The freight route across the Gulf of Bothnia extends
to the Atlantic coast of Norway.
Unique possibility to combine all four modes of transport
The largest energy cluster in the Nordic countries made it possible

Timing is everything. The local energy tehcnology
industry is producing high-tech products, such as
diesel and electric engines, frequency converters,
power distribution systems and wind power appli-
cations. The export numbers have been increasing
several years in a row and a large number of these
products is best suited for air freight due to their
size, weight and value. Similarly, a substantial part
of basic components and raw materials has to be
imported to the region.
The region´s energy industry employs about 12.000
people and the overall turnover is about 7.5 billion
Euros (which includes global turnover of some of
the companies).
The local economical activity is refl ected in the
steady growth of passengers using Vaasa Airport.
Vaasa is Finland´s fi fth busiest airport (343.395
passengers in 2008) and for freight, Vaasa ranks
second after Helsinki.
