MPRC (5/2017) Knowledge Shar-
ing Session (KSS) entitled "Flood
Damage Mitigation" given by As-
soc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Adib Moham-
mad Razi was held on 6th April
2017 at Bilik Taklimat 1, FKAAS,
UTHM. The topics covered in the
session are types of flooding, cause of flood and flood man-
agement in Malaysia. The participants were exposed to under-
stand the engineering practice of the flood mitigation pro-
gramme in Malaysia.
Congratulations to Dr.
Radin Maya Saphira
Radin Mohamed on
your promotion and
appointment as Associ-
ate Professor.
Pejabat Hutan Daerah Johor Selatan and UTHM organized a mangrove planting activity in “Let's
Clean Go Green” community programme on 11 April 2017 at Hutan Simpan Sungai Pulai. Some 54
UTHM students volunteers, led by Assoc Prof Dr Radin
Maya Saphira have taken part in the programme. The volun-
teers gained valu-
able knowledge
and experience
by sailing down
the river and
planting mangrove seedlings in the muddy mangrove swamp.
There's no better way to learn than actual hands-on experi-
ence and later be able to spread the awareness to preserve our earth. About 1000 mangrove trees were
successfully planted during the half-day program.

Second batch of “Let's Clean Go Green” programme was
held on 18 April 2017 at Gelang Patah River. Despite of
heavy rains MPRC teams successfully prepared 3000
mangrove seed banks and did some river clean up.
Through this pro-
gramme, the volunteers
are now more aware of
the vital role played by
mangrove swamp in
land and sea conserva-
tion. Besides prevent-
ing land erosion, man-
grove trees help to shield possible disasters brought about
by tsunami and cyclones. More importantly, mangrove
swamp acts as breeding and
nursery grounds for a variety of
marine animals and harbors a
variety of life forms like inver-
tebrates, fish, amphibians, rep-
tiles and birds.

“Intermediate Level Auto Cad Training” short course was successfully
conducted on 9th May 2017. Mr Sajjad Ali Mangi, an FKAAS PhD candi-
date who delivered a short course on how to analyze research data using
Auto Cad software. The session was divided into 7 sub-topics: 1) Intro-
duction of Auto Cad 2D & 3D 2)
Scale setting 3) Introduction of
tool bar used in Auto Cad 4) How
to prepare engineering process
flow diagrams 5) Wastewater treatment process flow diagram 6) How to
draw a irregular shapes on Auto Cad 7) How to calculate accurate area for
irregular boundaries. About 20 participants attended the programme which
involved postgraduate students and lecturers. The benefits of using Auto-
CAD software are quickly create designs, easily modify, more accuracy, easy to transfer and long time save. The
hands-on activity really helps the students to improve their skills. The short course was very beneficial to all partici-
The first book chapter
(MPRC) was published on
11 May, 2017 entitle
‘Integrated Water Re-
sources Protection Vol 1’.
The books contents con-
sist of the latest research
and development by
MPRC researchers.
We
would
like to
congratulate the
President of Student
Chapter MPRC,
Paran Anak Gani who passed his PhD viva-voice
with minor correction.
On 13 May 2017, A short course on “Soap, lotion
and shampoo making” was conducted by Bioprofe
- Bioprocess & Food Engineering and collabora-
tion with MPRC was held at MPRC Lab, FKAAS,
UTHM. About 25 participants attended the pro-
gramme involving postgraduate students, staff and
the general public. The short course contents is to pro-
duce the bio-products such as cosmetics
and personal care. This is an effort to

In a meeting on 21st June 2017, MPRC has decided to organize a confer-
ence titled “Young Researchers for Water and Environmental Engineering
2017 Symposium (YRWEES 2017)”. YRWEES 2017 will be held on 21st
October 2017. Participation is open to all researchers in Malaysia who
meet the requirements of this YRWEES 2017. This conference also of-
fered two amazing short courses: “How To Write A Research Paper And
Get It Published” by Dr. Adel Al-Gheethi and “Thesis Writing Format
And Getting Started With Mendeley” by Mr. Ahmad Rizal Alias. This will
offer great opportunity to young researchers in publishing their paper and
gaining experiences and knowledge.
