hat better way to celebrate love than to have a party at Valencia Lakes? Th is
year our Valentine’s party had a new twist. On February 14th, several couples
participated in the renewal of their wedding vows in a very special ceremony
offi ciated by the ever famous Captain Bill. We gathered poolside at 7pm on a most
beautiful moonlit night, where each couple was given balloon corsages. At the conclusion
of the ceremony, the couples kissed and released their balloons, which fl oated up so gently
to waiting stars. After a champagne toast, the couples received vow renewal certifi cates
and joined the rest of the attendees for an evening of dining and dancing in our beautifully
decorated social hall. Music was provided by Bobby G. Summers, who kept us dancing. Chef
Michael provided hors d’oeuvres, wine and soft drinks. His piece de resistance was the dessert
bar replete with a chocolate fountain. Pictures to memorialize the evening were taken by
Cassandra Leopold and Al Wax. Th anks to our volunteers, our excellent staff and especially to
all of you who attended. Th at’s what makes our parties so special and so successful!

CLUB SPOTLIGHT
TRAVEL CLUB’S VALENTINE’S CRUISE By Arlene Donnelon
Valentine’s Day brought many delightful surprises to Valencia, where we met the
yacht Star Ship for a delightful luncheon cruise on Tampa Bay. Th e weather was
perfect, and we enjoyed a choice of three entrees (pasta pockets, chicken or grilled
salmon), a lovely green salad and a choice of tart Key Lime pie or a decadent
chocolate presentation.
Th e captain pointed out
interesting sights, and we all
enjoyed a wonderful two hours
in the sunshine on calm seas
and spending time with good
friends and neighbors. Th anks
to Arlene for planning a most
enjoyable cruise, which was
followed by a lovely Valentine’s
Day party and “vow renewal”
that evening.
VALENCIA GOLFER’SJanuary 23 the Valencia Lakes Golfers held their third full fi eld event. Th ere were twenty-four players
competing in the tournament, and twenty-fi ve attended awards dinner. Th e weather was spectacular and the
golf refl ected that. Prizes were awarded to those players whose shots on the par threes were closest to the holes.
Th e winners were Erv Daigle on the second hole, Doug Kurowski on the 8th, Lenny Bozuk on the 12th, and Sal
Scrozzo on the 15th hole. Rick Strocsher was awarded a prize for the longest straight drive on the ninth hole.
Th e team winning the tournament consisted of Sal Scrozzo, Doug Kurowski, Jim Lenti, and Dan Bowlus. Th ey
had an impressive seven birdies on the front nine and an equally amazing score of 29. For those of you who
play golf, you know just how awesome that is. Our next event will be later this summer, and I’m confi dent it
will be as much of a success as was this one was. Th anks to all who contributed to this sensational day.
RESIDENT SPEAKS AT BOOK CLUBRobert Howerter, a resident novelist, recently addressed the book club about the emerging technology of digital books and the diff erence
between publishing e-books and printed versions. He pointed out that “digital books are less expensive than printed versions.” He added,
“Th e age of digital readers is still young, but growing. Th e US e-book market has doubled each year, currently comprising about twenty
percent of book sales, while the world market is still only three percent. It is expected that they will exceed the US market within fi ve years.”
Howerter has received fi ve-star reviews, and is gaining support from die-hard novel readers of adventure. His books are available for all
E-readers at smashwords.com/profi le/view/rhowerterbooks and are also found on the web sites of Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple and
Sony and currently available in thirty-seven countries.
