The testing capacity of the USTER® TENSOJET 4 is immense: asmuchas24runningkilometersofyarnperhour.This levelofpowerandspeedmeansthatperiodicandnear-periodicbreaking-elongationfailure can be detected for the first time. These faults are costlyin subsequent processing, which is why the USTER® TENSOJET 4goes a step further, by providing a display of periodic faults in aspectrogram–agreathelpindetectingpossibleerrorsandpreventingthem.Andthesystem’smassivetestcapacity–upto30,000breaksperhour – allows yarn faults or isolated weak places that occur onlyinfrequentlytobedetectedandstepstobetakentofixtheproblem.Forthespinner,thisgivesyouryarntradingafirmfoundationandpavesthewaytohigherprofitability.

USTER® TEnsojET 4 – OPERATING PRINcIPLES

Conventional strength testing merely analyzes the physical strengthandelongationofayarnsample,toarriveatanaveragevalueforitsstrength.This,however,cannotgiveatrueindicationofayarn’slikelybehaviorduring furtherprocessing. Todo this,weneed to increaseboth thenumberofsamples takenand thespeedofprocessing.Thetesting operation comprises four stages. First, moving rollers drawtheyarncontinuously from thepackageatapresetspeed.Theyarnis then sucked into a storage zone. Next, the yarn is then passed,via two pairs of rollers, into the measuring zone, where a systemofmovingclamping rollerseffectastrainon theyarnuntil itbreaks.Finally, lint is automatically suckedout of the system. Theseprocessstages are synchronized and simultaneous operation of individualfunctionsmaximizesthroughputrates.

ESSENTIAL TEST FOR WEAvING yARNS

Production speeds in the weaving mill have increased significantlyin recent years, as machine technology has progressed. The resultis that weft and warp yarns are subjected to higher peak loadsthanever–andthisbecomesacritical factorwhenit leads tomorethreadbreakagesandconsequentlyapotentiallydisastrousslumpinproductionefficiency.Tocounterthisproblem,itisabsolutelyessentialforspinnerstodaytotestweavingyarnsproperly.Seriousweaknessesinyarncanbecausedbyanumberoffactors:extremelythinplaces;thickplaceswithlittletwist;andalsoyarncontaminationbyvegetablematter, fly and foreign fibers. Such faults need to be identified, topinpoint spinning problems and to be able to assess the USTER®Weavabilityofayarnandthenumberofthreadbreakagesthatcanbeexpected.Sincemanyoftheseweakspotsmayoccuronlyrarelyandat isolated points in the yarn, there is only one way to make suretheyaredetected–bycarryingouta largenumberof randomtestswithinashorttime,usingrealisticloads.TheUSTER® TENSOJET 4isahigh-performancetensilestrengthtesterwhichdoesexactlythat.Theadvantageisyours–andyourcustomers’.

ISOLATED WEAK PLACES –WHAT STATISTICS CANNOT REVEAL

A series of in-depth evaluations, each based on analyses of 100,000yarn breaks, have shown that the real weak places – defined usingUSTER® – are actually to be found at deeper levelsof break and elongation measurement than was previously assumed.In short, the dangerous weak places just cannot be detected usingtraditional testing or conventional statistical methods!

TheUSTER® TENSOJET 4usespercentilevalues to indicate the levelof the weakest parts of a yarn. If there are isolated weak places,they reveal themselves as “outliers” – extreme deviations from thescatter plot. The percentile value indicates the exact level of theseweak places. In a modern spinning mill, the interaction betweenthe fiber material, the spinning process and the yarn count playsan overriding, central role. Even the smallest fluctuations in thefibermaterialorinthespinningprocesscancauseanincreaseinthenumberofisolatedweakplaces.Thiscanoftenbetracedbacktothespinninglimitofthecottonfibersused.
