OH Sensor – USTER® HAIRINESSA perceptive indication of touch and wear

Factors such as hairiness, diameter variations, form, density andimpurities through trash and dust affect the quality of yarns in fabrics and knitwear – and ultimately the quality of the end product. One measuring technology alone is rarely sufficient toenable full assessment of a yarn. Only a combination of severalsensor technologies allows effective and efficient quality monitor-ing. The USTER® TESTER 5-S800 writes a new chapter in measur-ing technology. Foreign fibers are now one of the biggest con-cerns in the spinning room. Foreign fibers left behind in the yarnrender it sometimes almost unsellable. With its new optical sen-sor, the USTER® TESTER 5-S800 allows you to measure and clas-sify these unwanted fibers.

In the finishing process, about 12% of customers’ complaints con-cern color variations and shadow-forming due to differences inyarn diameter, yarn density and yarn shape. Impurities in yarn are a major concern for your weaving and knit-ting customers. Trash and seed-coat fragments that remain in theyarn are the direct cause of up to 25% of production downtimesin the weaving process. Likewise, dust-soiled yarn can also con-siderably reduce the working life of knitting needle heads, as wellas in the friction areas in circular and flat knitting production ma-chines.

Foreign fibers almost never cause a yarn break in the spinningroom. However, foreign fibers in the end product can render theproduct unsellable. Fast and reliable detection is thereforeextremely important. The USTER® TESTER 5-S800 detects andclassifies foreign fibers in the same operation as all the otherquality parameters. If cops contaminated with foreign fibers aretested in the spinning room, just a few kilometers of yarn are suf-ficient to detect that a foreign fiber problem exists. With the FMSensor, the USTER® TESTER 5-S800 offers the most comprehen-sive quality control there has ever been – and you’ll appreciatethat in the future.

FM Sensor – classification of foreign fibers

USTER®’s patented Knowledge Based System (KBS) simplifies faultdetection within a textile production chain as far back as the card-ing process. Based on the yarn measurements made, the sourceof any problems and potentially damaged spinning machine partscan be identified. In this way untrained lab personnel can reactquickly without specialist mechanical training and avoid produc-tion of second grade quality. The spectrogram detects periodicand nearly periodic faults due to defective rotating parts very ac-curately! The USTER® simulation software visualizes in a fast waythe appearance of those faults.
