You are to draw a self-portrait. A self-portrait is an image of
you. It is to show two sides of you. Both sides are to be shaded
using a shading technique of your choice and must show by direction
of shadows a light source. It must show your personality besides
looking like you. You will draw one side as realistically as you
can (recall how we went over how to draw facial features the the
proportions of the human face). You will then draw the other half
as abstractly. A whole realistic face in monochromatic with added
abstractions and items to represent and say something about
oneself. Something like this will be acceptable since it is not
just a face and boring looking. The abstract side is to show
something about you and has to be in color. The realistic side must
be in black and white or monochromatic. It can show your hobbies
and interests and/or it cab show something about your
personality.
Slide 3
The choice of what you want to say is yours. You must use
symbolism to represent yourself in some form or matter. Do not
forget colors have meanings. So be aware of the colors you choose
to use. When you are done you are to write a paragraph of at least
6 sentences explaining your choices of what you did in your self
portrait. This is a final so It will count as 200 points and part
of 60% of your grade as a project averaged in with all the other
projects this semester. When you turn it in it should have a rubric
and a paragraph attached to the back. Mediums of choice are: pencil
or ink pen and colored pencils or oil pastels. It must be on the 11
by 14 inch paper. No paints or chalk pastels this time. If you wish
to add collage and use glue or even try and use cardboard to create
depth this is allowed. But the realistic half of the drawing must
be drawn in black and white or monochromatic. Most of all be
creative. I do not want straight on boring looking faces or
cartoony like faces. You all are quite capable of drawing a bit
better this semester so show it off!
