Using SuccessFactors during PRD Cycle Adding Performance Goals into SuccessFactors in line with the Academic Performance

Expectation Framework and Adding Development Goals

For: Academic Staff

PRD Phase: Goal Setting Ongoing

Conversations Year End Review

Task Either before or after meeting your manager for setting Performance and Development goals:

Performance Goals are created in SuccessFactors, with measures on completion. A Goal Library has been

established to reflect the current Academic Performance Expectations Framework (PEF).

Development Goals are created, aligned to the 70:20:10 development model

Outcome Performance Goals and Development Goals are entered in to SuccessFactors and you are ready to notify your

Manager/assigned PRD Supervisor to view them in SuccessFactors.

In SuccessFactors You have logged in to SuccessFactors and are viewing your ‘Home’ dashboard – click the ‘Home’ drop-down list to

select ‘Performance Goals’:

The Performance Goals page will display. Ensure you have the correct year selected:

Adding Performance Goals 1: With the Performance Goals page displaying click on ‘+ Add Goal’ then choose either ‘Add Goal’ or ‘Use SMART

Goal Wizard’:

2: When “Creating a New Goal”, you will have the choice of a ‘Personal Goal’, or a ‘Library Goal’. To add a

preloaded Performance Goal aligned to the Academic PEF, select ‘Library Goal’:

3: At the top of the list you will see the three (3) main domains outlined in the Academic PEF:

4: Each domain will have several sub-categories, which is in turn broken down by the expectations by

academic level. Select the goal that is applicable to you by ticking the box to the left and clicking ‘Add Selected’:

5: You may then tailor the goal more specifically to you or leave as is. Click ‘Save Changes’ when complete.

Remember you can always edit your goal at a later stage if required:

Repeat step 2-5 to continue to add goals. 3 – 6 Performance goals is a good number.

6: If you would like to add additional Performance Goals than those available in the Academic Goal Library, you

can do that too. When creating a new Goal, you will have the choice of a ‘Personal Goal’, or a ‘Library Goal’ – click

on ‘Personal Goal’:

7: The ‘Add Goal’ form will display – enter details, measures, then click ‘Save Changes’.

Although ‘Measure’ is optional, adding measures helps to know when the goal is achieved: this can be simply

‘Produce X number of documents’ or ‘Event positive rating above 80%’.

8: Your goal(s) will be listed

Repeat step 2-7 to continue to add goals. 3 – 6 Performance goals is a good number.

Performance Goals will automatically display in your Year End Review when available at the end of the year.

Adding Development Goals Adding Development Goals is similar to Performance Goals – access the Development Goals page via the ‘Home’

The Development Goals page will display. Ensure you have the correct year selected:

1: With the Developments Goals page displaying click on ‘+ Add Goal’.

2: The ‘Add Development Goal’ form will display:

3: Select ‘Category’: this can be ‘Current Role’, ‘Future Role’ as part of career planning and progression, or

‘Personal’ development goals – you can add all three types of goals as part of your development plan.

Enter one or more descriptors for the 70:20:10 development model to clarify how the development goal

will be achieved. (Note not all must be populated).

Narrow the date range if applicable, then click ‘Save & Close’ when complete.

Repeat this process for each Development Goal.

An example is given below:

You will see Development Goals listed in that section, repeat steps 1-3 to add more. Development Goals will

automatically display in your Year End Review when available at the end of the year.
