Tracking: From Paula Elizondo, CNA graduate June 2012

Carmen Robinson and I (Fall 2011-Mr. Parker's class) work at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in the float pool. I'm starting nursing school next month at Grossmont College for my ADN-maybe transferring afterwards for my BSN. I absolutely love my job and floating to the different units is challenging but keeps everything fresh and me on my toes. Starting salary is $13.25hr, but I work night shift so with differential the salary is $15.00hr. (pretty decent for entry level).

Page 40: Using Facebook in Adult Education · Facebook to bring in new students •Give examples of ways to use Facebook for professional development •Describe 3 teachers’ experiences

From Paula Elizondo, CNA graduate July 2012 (cont.)

As far as recommendations go, I suggest volunteering if someone wants to try and get a job in a hospital. My volunteer experience helped me to make connections at the hospital which in turn helped me to get my foot in the door. I volunteer in ICU and applied for a position in that unit, but was not hired because of lack of acute care experience and the manager hired someone from within the organization.

Page 41: Using Facebook in Adult Education · Facebook to bring in new students •Give examples of ways to use Facebook for professional development •Describe 3 teachers’ experiences

From Paula Elizondo, CNA graduate July 2012 (continued)

Despite that, I was able to demonstrate to the unit/nurses/healthcare partners, my work ethic, ability to learn quickly, care & compassion I have for people, and the unit manager gave a recommendation to the float pool and I was hired a few weeks later. I hope this helps. I constantly refer people to your program because I feel that I've received quality training and education that helped me to be where I'm at today and for that I thank you and Mr. Parker!”

To Kathy: Would you do a Facebook class group again next semester? “Yes…

•“Will ask all 3 CNA classes to join

the Facebook group; ask students to take the lead”

•“Keep track of students who got

jobs, but will have to also use

additional methodologies (email,

phone, word of mouth) since the

response was low.”
