    Safety instructions

term “electric tool” mentioned below refers to mains-operated electric tools(with power cord) and to rechargeable electric tools (without power cord).Keep these instructions for use in a safe place.

    1) Workplace(a) Keep your workplace clean and tidy. Untidy and badly illuminated work

areas may lead to accidents.(b) Do not operate this machine in potentially explosive environments

containing combustible liquids, gases or dusts. Electric tools send outsparks which may ignite dust or vapours.

    (c) Keep children and other persons away from the electric tool during use. When distracted, you may lose control over the apparatus.

    2) Electric safety(a) The plug of the machine has to be suitable for the socket. The

connector may not be modified in any way. Do not use an adapter plugtogether with earthed devices. Unchanged connectors and fittingsockets reduce the risk of an electric shock.

    (b) Avoid body contact to earthed surfaces, such as pipes, radiator, stovesand refrigerators. There is a higher risk of an electric shock, if your bodyis earthed.

    (c) Keep the machine clear of rain or humidity. The penetration of waterinto an electrical device increases the risk of an electric shock.

    (d) Do not use the cable for unintended purposes, to carry or suspend themachine or to pull the connector out of the socket. Keep the cable clearof heat, oil, sharp edges or any moving parts. Damaged or entangledcables increase the risk of an electric shock.

    (e) When using an electric tool in the open, use an extension cable onlywhich has been approved for outdoor use. The use of an extensioncable suitable for use in the open will reduce the risk of an electricshock. Always use an RCD (redicual circuit device or circuit breaker).

    (f) Hold the machine at the insulated gripping surfaces as the belt grindermay hit its own power cord. Damaging a live cable may make metalmachine parts live, which may lead to an electric shock.

    3) Personal safety (a) Please pay attention and watch what you are doing, and carry out the

work with the electric tool sensibly. Do not use the machine, when youare tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medicine. A momentof carelessness in the use of the machine could lead to serious injuries.

    b) Operations such as sanding, wire brushing or polishing are notrecommended to be performed with this power tool. Operations forwhich the power tool was not designed may create a hazard and causepersonal injury.

    c) Do not use accessories which are not specifically designed andrecommended by the tool manufacturer. Just because the accessory canbe attached to your power tool, it does not assure safe operation.

    d) The rated speed of the accessory must be at least equal to themaximum speed marked on the power tool. Accessories running fasterthan their rated speed can break and fly apart.

    e) The outside diameter and the thickness of your accessory must bewithin the capacity rating of your power tool. Incorrectly sizedaccessories cannot be adequately guarded or controlled.

    f) The arbour size of wheels, flanges, backing pads or any other accessorymust properly fit the spindle of the power tool. Accessories with arbourholes that do not match the mounting hardware of the power tool willrun out of balance, vibrate excessively and may cause loss of control.

or accessory is dropped, inspect for damage or install an undamagedaccessory. After inspecting and installing an accessory, position yourselfand bystanders away from the plane of the rotating accessory and runthe power tool at maximum no-load speed for one minute.Damaged accessories will normally break apart during this test time.

    h) Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on application, useface shield, safety goggles or safety glasses. As appropriate, wear dustmask, hearing protectors, gloves and workshop apron capable ofstopping small abrasive or workpiece fragments. The eye protectionmust be capable of stopping flying debris generated by variousoperations. The dust mask or respirator must be capable of filtratingparticles generated by your operation. Prolonged exposure to highintensity noise may cause hearing loss.

    i) Keep bystanders a safe distance away from work area. Anyoneentering the work area must wear personal protective equipment.Fragments of workpiece or of a broken accessory may fly away andcause injury beyond immediate area of operation.

    j) Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, when performingan operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring orits own cord. Cutting accessory contacting a "live" wire may makeexposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and shock the operator.

    k) Position the cord clear of the spinning accessory. If you lose control, thecord may be cut or snagged and your hand or arm may be pulled intothe spinning accessory.

    l) Never lay the power tool down until the accessory has come to acomplete stop. The spinning accessory may grab the surface and pull thepower tool out of your control.

    m) Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side. Accidentalcontact with the spinning accessory could snag your clothing, pullingthe accessory into your body.

    n) Regularly clean the power tool’s air vents. The motor’s fan will draw thedust inside the housing and excessive accumulation of powdered metalmay cause electrical hazards.

    o) Do not operate the power tool near flammable materials. Sparks couldignite these materials.

    p) Do not use accessories that require liquid coolants. Using water or otherliquid coolants may result in electrocution or shock.

Kickback and Related WarningsKickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged rotating wheel,

backing pad, brush or any other accessory. Pinching or snagging causes rapidstalling of the rotating accessory which in turn causes the uncontrolled powertool to be forced in the direction opposite of the accessory’s rotation at thepoint of the binding. For example, if an abrasive wheel is snagged or pinchedby the workpiece, the edge of the wheel that is entering into the pinch pointcan dig into the surface of the material causing the wheel to climb out orkick out. The wheel may either jump toward or away from the operator, depending on direction of the wheel’s movement at the point of pinching.Abrasive wheels may also break under these conditions.Kickback is the result of power tool misuse and/or incorrect operatingprocedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions asgiven below.

    a) Maintain a firm grip on the power tool and position your body and armto allow you to resist kickback forces. Always use auxiliary handle, ifprovided, for maximum control over kickback or torque reaction duringstart-up. The operator can control torque reactions or kickback forces, ifproper precautions are taken.

    b) Never place your hand near the rotating accessory. Accessory maykickback over your hand.

    c) Do not position your body in the area where power tool will move ifkickback occurs. Kickback will propel the tool in direction opposite tothe wheel’s movement at the point of snagging.

    d) Use special care when working corners, sharp edges etc. Avoidbouncing and snagging the accessory. Corners, sharp edges or bouncinghave a tendency to snag the rotating accessory and cause loss of controlor kickback.

    e) Do not attach a saw chain woodcarving blade or toothed saw blade.Such blades create frequent kickback and loss of control.

Safety Warnings Specific for Grinding and Abrasive Cutting-Off Operations:

    a) Use only wheel types that are recommended for your power tool andthe specific guard designed for the selected wheel. Wheels for whichthe power tool was not designed cannot be adequately guarded andare unsafe.

    b) The guard must be securely attached to the power tool and positionedfor maximum safety, so the least amount of wheel is exposed towardsthe operator. The guard helps to protect operator from broken wheelfragments and accidental contact with wheel.

    Operation

Powercraft does not deliver spare accessories for the Combitool. The Combitoolis designed to use standard accessories (with collet diameter 3,2 or 2,4 mm).Always check that the maximum rpm of the accessory is suitable for themaximum speed of the Combitool.

Some hints in regard to speedAlways practice on a piece of scrap to choose the correct accessory and theoptimum operational speed.• Use low speed (with respect to high temperatures) with plastics and other

materials with a low melting temperature.• Use low speed (with respect to damaging the brushes) during cleaning,

polishing and brushing.• Use high speed when working with steel or iron.

Tip for cutting: Use paraffin or other suitable lubricant on the cutter toprevent the cut material from adhering to the cutter teeth.

    Safety instructions

    c) Wheels must be used only for recommended applications. For example:do not grind with the side of cut-off wheel. Abrasive cut-off wheels areintended for peripheral grinding, side forces applied to these wheelsmay cause them to shatter.

    d) Always use undamaged wheel flanges that are of correct size andshape for your selected wheel. Proper wheel flanges support the wheelthus reducing the possibility of wheel breakage. Flanges for cut-offwheels may be different from grinding wheel flanges.

    e) Do not use worn down wheels from larger power tools. Wheelsintended for larger power tools are not suitable for the higher speedsof a smaller tools and may burst.

Additional Safety Warnings Specific for Abrasive Cutting-Off Operations:

    a) Do not “jam” the cut-off wheel or apply excessive pressure. Do notattempt to make an excessive depth of cut. Overstressing the wheelincreases the loading and susceptibility to twisting or binding of thewheel in the cut and the possibility of kickback or wheel breakage.

    b) Do not position your body in line with and behind the rotating wheel. When the wheel, at the point of operation, is moving away from yourbody, the possible kickback may propel the spinning wheel and thepower tool directly at you.

    c) When wheel is binding or when interrupting a cut for any reason, switch off the power tool and hold the power tool motionless until thewheel comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the cut-offwheel from the cut while the wheel is in motion otherwise kickbackmay occur. Investigate and take corrective action to eliminate the causeof wheel binding.

    d) Do not restart the cutting operation in the workpiece. Let the wheelreach full speed and carefully re-enter the cut. The wheel may bind, walk up or kickback if the power tool is restarted in the workpiece.

    e) Support panels or any oversized workpiece to minimize the risk ofwheel pinching and kickback. Large workpieces tend to sag under theirown weight. Supports must be placed under the workpiece near the lineof cut and near the edge of the workpiece on both sides of the wheel.

    f) Use extra caution when making a “pocket cut” into existing walls orother blind areas. The protruding wheel may cut gas or water pipes, electrical wiring or objects that can cause kickback.
