Mrs. Leland Fan- ning had the program, which involved psychology and psy- chological tests. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Miles Koh- ler and Mrs. Marshall Slauson. Ice Refugees iMrs. Clarence Barkman and son, Roger, of Delhi spent a few days with their grandpar- ents, Mr. and Mrs. William Graham, at Huhbell Corners. The Barkmans had problems with the heating system at their home in Delhi because of the ice jam at the bridge over the Delaware river there. Charles Elflein has been a patient at Stamford hospital the last week and expected to have surgery Wednesday of this week. James Ralph Needham, in- fant son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Needham, was baptized at the morning service by the pastor, Rev. Francis Rivenburgh, at Roxbury Methodist church. Janine Jones of Grand Gorge spent the long weekend of Washington’s ibirthlay with her grandmother, Mrs. Sherrill Tompkins. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Spar- ling of Accord spent the day last week with Mr. Sparling’s mother, Mrs. Stella Baker. Glenn Sparling of Utica was ' also a visitor Saturday. Mrs. Marguerite Finch of White Plains spent the week- end with Mr. and Mrs. Eber Cartwright. Larry Cartwright has been transferred from Albany to Warrensburg by the Standard Bridge Co., for which he works. He comes home weekends. Madeline Wallace of Newing- ton, Conn., spent Wednesday to Friday at her Roxbury home on Spruce street. Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Martin of PrattsviJle were visitors on Sunday of Wardell J. Martin. Mrs. Joseph Stripp Sr. of Stamford and Mr. and Mrs. Jo- seph Stripp Jr. and children, Juliene and Jeffrey, of Hal- cottville were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. John F. BaJ- lard. Mr. and Mrs. George Sweet of Roxbury and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Felter of Kelly Corners were guests Wednesday of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Raeder in Denver to celebrate Mrs. Fel- ter’s birthday. Staples returned home last week after spending six weeks in Miami and other points. Mrs. Carl Ruderman of Rox- bury Run will leave Sunday by plane for Sweden to visit rela- lives. Fished New Zealand William Frevert has returned Ifram a trout fishing trip to New Zealand, his third trip there. He said he took unusuai- iy large trout from there. He aOso visited Tahiti and Samoa and was at Samoa when the astronauts landed near there. Mrs. Edna Bahnes has re- turned from Delmar, where she spent time. Her little grand- daughter, Debra Balmes, had another operation on her fin- ger, which was almost severed dn an accident. The nine-year- old girl was in a hospital for a week, and the surgeons trans- planted tendons from her foot. Mrs. Bruce Caswell will re- iview “Penny Candy” by Jean Kerr at the home of Mrs. Charles Aikman on March 1. ’The review of the book “Zelda” will be done in May instead of March. * Roland F. “Doc” Ross, 68, the most popular athletic instructor and coach in the histoi^f of Roxbury central school, died unexpectedly Friday at the Stamford hospital. He had suffered a coronary attack ’Thursday at his home in Rox- bury. Funeral services were held Monday morning at the Rox- bury United Methodist church. Rev. Francis Rivenburgh, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial will be in the Roxbury ceme- tery. Surviving Mr. Ross are his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Wild Ross, two sons, Conrad Ross of Bing- hamton and James Ross of Vir- ginia Beach, Va., and a grand- daughter, Heather Ross of Bing- hamton. He was born May 21, 1902 in Spring Creek, Pa., a son of Claude and Mipnie Smith Ross. He attended Corry high school at Corry, Pa., and was gradu- ated at Ithaca college. He taught at MargaretviHe high school before going to Rox- bury, where he was coach for 37 years. He retired in 1964. During his years at Roxbury, he was the originator of the summer recreation program, and the annual Doc Ross minor sports carnival, which received state recognition. He was also a scoutmaster in Roxbury for 12 years. Those from out of town at the funeral Monday included Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Ross, Mr. and Mrs. James Ross, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Robinson, Mrs. Blanche Wild, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wild and Joseph Wild, all of Spencer, N. Y., and Jerry Russell of Oneonta. College Citation David Hosier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Hosier of New Kingston, was named to the dean’s list for the fall se- mester at Clarkson Coillege of Technology at Potsdam, where 'he is a sophomore. The nine-year- old girl was in a hospital for a week, and the surgeons tran s­p lanted tendons from h er foot.

Roland F. “Doc” Ross, 68, the m ost popular a th letic instructor and coach in the histoi^f of Roxbury central school, died unexpectedly F riday a t the Stam ford hospital. He had suffered a coronary a ttack ’Thursday a t his home in Rox­bury.

Funeral services were held Monday morning a t the Rox­bury United M ethodist church. Rev. Francis Rivenburgh, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial will be in the Roxbury ceme­tery.

Surviving Mr. Ross are his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Wild Ross, two sons, Conrad Ross of Bing­ham ton and Jam es Ross of Vir­ginia Beach, Va., and a grand­daughter, H eather Ross of Bing­hamton.

He was born May 21, 1902 in Spring Creek, Pa., a son of Claude and Mipnie Smith Ross. He attended Corry high school a t Corry, Pa., and was gradu­ated a t Ithaca college.

He taught a t MargaretviHe high school before going to Rox­bury, where he was coach for 37 years. He re tired in 1964.

D uring his years a t Roxbury, he was the originator of the sum m er recreation program , and the annual Doc Ross m inor sports carnival, which received s ta te recognition. He was also a scoutm aster in Roxbury for 12 years.

Those from out of town a t the funeral Monday included Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Jam es Ross, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Robinson, Mrs. Blanche Wild, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wild and Joseph Wild, all of Spencer, N. Y., and Je rry Russell of Oneonta.

Scholarships Obtained will be awarded to students attending UOOC. They also (will go to community college graduates transferring to four-year col­leges and universities to work for baccalaureate degrees.
