What is a RIGHT?
• A RIGHT is something that the LAW says we CAN do.
• In Britain we have the right leave school when we are 16 or to vote when we are 18.
AIM1 What gives Americans the RIGHT to carry a gun?
• Turn to page 53 in your USA book and make notes on the right to carry guns in the USA.
How easy is it to get a gun in the USA?
• It is not very difficult to get a gun in the USA. In most States as long as you are over 21, you only need a driving licence or some other form of identification to buy a gun. In fact, it is easier to get a gun than it is to get a driving licence!

The ‘Right to Carry’ Law
• Most states in the USA now have ‘Right to Carry’ laws
• These laws only apply to Gun Shop sales – not other ways of getting a gun

What is a PRESSURE GROUP?
• A pressure group is a group that puts pressure on governments and other organisations to make changes.
• In the USA they are called Interest Groups

• In America the NRA (National Rifle Association) is a pressure group that protects the right of Americans to carry a gun.
