Showers and Storms Expected in the East and the West. US: WEEK OF MAY 29JUNE 4 Retail implications: Heat in the East will drive seasonal demand, but the West will face less favorable temperatures. Last year, this week was the coolest since 2009: Severe weather focused in the Rockies, Northern Plains and Midwest. Bonnie voyage: Tropical Depression Bonnie will crawl along the Carolina coast early in the week, spreading heavy rain northward to New England. Meanwhile, rain and thunderstorms will slowly move across the Central US, exacerbating flooding in Texas. The West will remain relatively dry. An East-West split: Hot and humid conditions will blanket the East early in the week, with a late-week front bringing temperatures back down to normal. The West will start out cooler than last year, but temperatures will climb above normal and last year by midweek. The cooler temperatures will move across the Rockies and settle into the Southern Plains, leaving the region cooler than last year. US: WEEK OF JUNE 511 Retail implications: Cool conditions in the East will discourage seasonal product demand, while those in the West can stay more optimistic, thanks to the warmer temperatures in the region. Last year, this week was the warmest in 55 years: Rainfall was the least since 2012, although still above normal. Severe weather was focused from the South Central region into the Northeast. Cool runnings: Cooler-than-normal temperatures will cover the South Central region at the beginning of the week, and spread throughout the East as the week progresses. Warmer-than-normal temperatures will extend from the West into the Northern Plains, although they will moderate throughout the week. Summertime showers: Much of the Central US will see a break from heavy rain and severe storms, while the East will see light showers and isolated thunderstorms early in the week. Scattered storms are anticipated in the Southern Rockies, and the heaviest rain is expected throughout Florida.
