    Enrico Krog Iversen, CEO

Enrico Krog Iversen has been CEO and partner at Universal Robots since 2008. He discovered a huge potential in the UR robotsthat - compared with traditional industrial robots - are intuitive to program, simple to integrate and exible to deploy. Within a fewyears, he created spectacular growth and expansion of Universal Robots, combining many years of experience in managementwith in-depth knowledge of automation and production processes.

Enrico Krog Iversen began his career as a management trainee with the shipping company A.P. Moeller/Maersk in Copenhagen,

Denmarks largest company. Subsequently, he held various positions within the group, including a period as Operations Managerwith Maersk, Inc. in New York, USA, before studying for a degree in business administration at the University of Southern Denmarkin Odense.

Before joining Universal Robots, he was partner and Sales Director at Krog Iversen & Co. A/S (today Scan A/S), the largestmanufacturer of heating stoves in Denmark. In this position he was responsible for the companys international expansion andplayed a signicant role in the companys strong growth.

    Daniel Friis, Chief Commercial Ocer

In 2015, Daniel Friis, our Chief Commercial Ocer, joined Universal Robots. He thrives on working for global growth companiescharacterized by an entrepreneurial, creative spirit.

UR pioneered a robot that completely disrupted the world of automation; we were rst movers within collaborative robots andhold a 60 percent share in a market about to explode. The small and middle-sized manufacturers still represent an untappedmarket. Charging a path to expand that leadership position was an opportunity I could not turn down.

Daniel Friis brought 15 years of valuable experience from the tech industry in other management positions in several global growthcompanies such as Thrane & Thrane, Nokia, Cobham SATCOM.

Daniel Friis philosophy is that the execution of the companys global growth strategy needs to happen at the local level, whichmeans oces and people on the ground in close proximity to end users. As CCO he spends a great deal of his time travelling in allregions, ensuring that URs competencies within service, support, training and marketing happen in tandem with UR distributors.

Being collaborative is just as much about accessibility, introducing our robots to all the manufacturers that have been consideredto be too costly and complex regarding automation. The important key is to to make them aware of benets such as increasedproductivity and the fast ROI. The challenge is to break with the conventional thinking among manufacturers that view robots ascaged, hard to program and designed for a single purpose.

    History

2003At the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, Esben stergaard, Kasper Sty and Kristian Kassow analyze the specialrequirements for robots in the food industry. Their conclusion is that the robotics market is dominated by heavy, expensive andunwieldy robots.

2005As a consequence of this, the three engineers found Universal Robots in 2005. Their declared goal is to make robot technologyaccessible to small and medium-sized enterprises by launching a lightweight robot that is easy to install and program. Theestablishment of the company is made possible through a seed investment by Syddansk Innovation.

    2008

The Danish Growth Fund, a state investment fund, is convinced of Universal Robots potential and joins the companysmanagement and Syddansk Innovation in an investment round.

The first UR5 robots are sold by distributors in Denmark and Germany.

    The international market for robots

The market for robots has been characterized by heavy, expensive and unwieldy robots made by engineers for engineers. UniversalRobots is at the forefront of a new emerging reality, launching a new class of robots, dubbed collaborative robots due to theirability to work directly alongside employees with no safety caging. These kinds of co-bots are poised to bridge the gap betweenfully-manual assembly and fully-automated manufacturing lines. Nowhere is that more obvious than in the SME sector, which, untilnow, considered robot automation as too costly and complex to even consider.

Unlike their big brothers working behind glass at automobile plants and other big assembly lines, the UR robots are lightweight, exible and can easily be moved and reprogrammed to solve new tasks, meeting the short-run production challenge faced bycompanies adjusting to ever more advanced processing in smaller batch sizes. According to RIA (Robotic Industries Association)only 10% of companies that could benet from robots have installed any so far. The reason that number is so low is primarily due

to three challenges now addressed by the UR robots: Cost, user-friendliness, and applicability.

    The products

Universal Robots rst product was the UR5, a six-jointed articulated robot arm that revolutionized the market for industrial robots. The UR5 weighs 18 kilos (40.6lbs), has a lifting capacity of up to 5 kilos (11 lbs) and a working radius of 850 mm (33.5 in).In 2012, Universal Robots UR10, with a payload of 10 kilos (22 lbs) and a reach of 1300 mm (51.2 in), was launched. The UR10has been designed according to exactly the same principles as the UR5, which means it is just as exible and easy to t into theproduction process.

In 2014 a brand new generation of UR5 and UR10 was introduced, enabling the UR robots to adapt advanced safety settings toeach specic application. The new generation featured true absolute encoders, eight adjustable safety rated functions, 32 built-inI/Os and an improved workow for connecting equipment to the control boxes. The safety system UR Safety 3.0 was certied by

    TV.

2015 saw the launch of UR3, a new compact table-top robot weighing only 11 kilos (24.3 lbs), but with a payload of 3 kilos (6.6lbs), 360-degree rotation on all wrist joints and innite rotation on the end joint. These unique features make UR3 the most exible, lightweight, table-top robot to work side-by-side with employees in the market today. Its an ideal choice for applications thatrequire 6-axis capabilities where size, safety and costs are critical.
