URLC COUNCIL NOTES JANUARY

The URLC Council continues work on the budget and identifying current maintenance and equipment needs as well as projects that were part of 3R but were not completed. One example is signage outside and inside the church. Several furnaces and air conditioners were replaced which were needed as well as some work related to an insurance inspection. Projects were prioritized and 3R funds used for these urgent needs. A recommendation was made at the preview of the annual budget meeting to move forward with the remaining needs and to take out a loan to accomplish these. The Council is analyzing options and will keep the congregation posted on any de-cisions. We are grateful for the ongoing financial sup-port. While we had excellent support for the 3R loan, our ending operational balance was less than in prior years. While we ended with a positive balance, we will rely on good offer-ings in January to make the operational needs. We will be planning the All Committee meet-ing soon. Watch for announcements related to it.

COAT CLOSET NEWS

Thank you to all who have donated coats, mittens, and hats. We have seen a huge need for items now that the weather has turned chilly. We are again in need of coats sized 6-12 for both genders and water proof mittens.

SUMMER IS ALMOST HERE! Well……. Closer anyway! Women’s Retreat : July 26th, 2020—July 29th, 2020. Get ready ladies, we are going to Duluth, Minnesota! $170 per person, (total).

Soup Supper

Soup Suppers are right around the corner! The first soup supper meal begins on “Ash Wednesday” February 26th. We will serve from 5:30 PM– 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. The Ash Wednesday service then begins at 6:30 PM. We have a sign up sheet to donate soups and such in the back of the Sanctuary. Or first Youth group to serve soup is the 7th grade class to help fund confirmation camp!

There is NO Sunday school on Sunday, February 16th

because of the President's Day weekend holiday break.

All children 3yrs to 6th grade are invited to Sunday

school. You don’t need to be registered to attend

Sunday school. Any child can come & join their class on

any Sunday at United Redeemer. If you would like more

information about Sunday school, please contact the

Youth Director Cindy Wilson for more information.

Noisy Offering

Thanks for your donation in January for the noisy

offering. Our next “Noisy Offering” is set for March 29th

at both services. This really helps us purchase supplies

for Sunday school. Thank You!

2020 Canoe Trip to Boundary

We are planning the “Canoe Trip” summer of 2020! The

dates for this trip are July 14th - 21st. We have 11 Youth

& 4 Leaders going on this amazing adventure!

February 5th - ”Heartbeat for Kids”!

Attention all kiddos: We’ve got some-thing FUN and NEW for YOU! We kicked off “Heartbeat for Kids” the first Wednesday of each month! We in-vite all kids 3 years to 6th grade. Kids will meet in the basement at 5:15 PM for a kid friendly supper. “Heartbeat for Kids” service while adults meet in the fellowship hall for supper and “In a Heartbeat” service. We want to help parents have an adult worship time and help connect kids to the church and God’s heartbeat. The kids will have supper and a short Christian story fol-lowed by a craft/game until 6:30 PM. Please feel free to bring a friend. There is NO cost, everything is free!

WELCA NEWS One of the most important ministry WELCA provides is a reception after a funeral. When a member of our congrega-tion dies it takes a lot of worry and stress off of a family. Recently several members have died and the WELCA has gone to work. I would like to give you a sketchy idea of how it works. !. First step is a call from the funeral director to one of our funeral leaders. 2. Contact is then made with the family to find out what they would like and how many people they would expect to be there. 3. Teams of workers are notified by the funeral leader: a. team for setting up fellowship hall b. someone calls for cakes. (Usually 8-12 de-pending on people numbers) c. Janitors are given information needed to ar-rangement of tables d. As per family request, food is purchased and prepared, usually day before. e. teams are needed to prepare food to serve. Make coffee. f. team is needed to work in fellowship hall, helping people. Serving coffee and generally make everyone feel welcome. g. as people are finished and leave the clean up team clears the tables. h. At this point the dishwasher team is running the dish washer and getting things back in order. The team is usually made up of men. For which we are always grateful. If you have ever invited 200 people for lunch—you know what I am talking about! But, in the end, it is all worth it! Many churches are not doing this ministry. This is usually because there are not enough women to do it, for many rea-sons. I am very proud of what we do!! When you are on the receiving end—it is greatly important. Give it some thought. Heartbeat

Heartbeat Services will be held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday’s of the month. Supper is served from 5:00 PM– 6:00 PM, the service starts at 6:00 PM. We welcome everyone to this service. This is a free will offering. Kids are always welcome at all services. We have just added another fun option for them on the 1st Wednesday. Heartbeat for kids is only held on the 1st Wednesday of the month in the basement. There will be a kid friendly meal served to the kids from 5:15 PM-6:00 PM. The kids will have a craft/game and short story from 6:00 PM- 6:30 PM . This is free. Kids are welcome to either service.

Who needs the Super Bowl? Are you ready for a REAL game night? We're talking board games, dominoes, Jenga, card games... whatever turns your fancy! We had so much fun playing games, laughing and hanging out together at last year's Ladies' Retreat, we decided we needed a replay! Come join us on Tuesday, Feb. 4th at Sonia and Mary's house (700 Judith Court) and feed your soul with good people and good times. Everyone's welcome - men, women, couples, singles! The happiness starts at 6pm and goes on until we can't laugh anymore! Feel free to bring a snack to share and a beverage of your choice. RSVP and/or questions, email Sonia ([email protected]).

YOGA UNITED REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH

Yoga will be starting on Monday February 3rd, 2020 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Yoga will be every Monday for 6 consecutive weeks. The fee will be $60 for 6 sessions or $12 for a drop in fee. We will meet in the Gathering Room. (Across from church offices) Please bring a Yoga mat, blanket, water for hydration, and a yoga block is optional.
