More than 15 years, the Architectural Engineering Study Program has beenestablished and continues to strive to provide benefits to the world ofeducation and society in general. Carrying the spirit of rahmatan lii'alamin, theArchitectural Engineering Study Program continues to develop and innovate inthe fields of education, research and community service.In the field of research and service, the Architectural Engineering StudyProgram continues to support the creation of an innovative, integrative andcontextual research work atmosphere. The results of existing research aredisseminated to the public both scientifically and popularly, and are manifestedin community service activities.

In education and teaching as well, through the establishment of IslamicArchitectural Design Studio (DAI) 1-6 as the core of learning in Architecture,students are educated to be able to live and apply Islamic values that areintegrated and comprehensive in architectural learning practices. For 8semesters students are trained and guided to become competent architectcandidates in the field of architecture as well as tawadhu 'in Islamic values.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR HUMBLE DEPARTMENT

Department of Architecture, UIN Malang was approvedby the Ministry of Religion and the Ministry ofEducation in 2004. In 2004 this department acceptedits first students. The Department of Architecture is thefirst Architecture-affiliated Department in Indonesiaunder the Directorate of Islamic Religious HigherEducation and the first from the ranks of the Ministryof Religion. From its beginnings until now, thisdepartment offers its uniqueness, namely acombination of Islamic scientific knowledge with theengineering department of T. Architecture. Islamicscholarship is not only theoretical, but also mannersand behaviour.

Our Architecture Department offers program which is acombination of Islamic knowledge with architecture.Islamic knowledge is not only about theory, but alsoetiquette and policy. The built environment is expectedto be an environment that provides Islamic solutionscontextual problems. Hopefully, it will invite humans tobe better and always remember the Creator.

The Architecture Department program at UIN Malang canbe completed by students for 8 semesters, each semesteris for 6 months. Graduate Degree title in our ArchitectureDepartment is S.Ars.

Our program offers, in total, 144 credits.We have our education program to teach the students withthe metaphor of Iqra.

In the context of scientific architecture in Indonesiaand in the world, UIN Malang gives color to the mainconcept of "Islamic Architecture". What it meant byIslamic architecture is that the study of architectureand the products of the profession that associatedwith it are expected to always be based on Islamicprinciples.

Architecture in the process of making designs untilthe surrender of the use of architecture has thepotential to violate Islamic rules, like environmentaldamage, negative behaviors such as fraud,corruption and wasteful. Moreover, most architectsdon't understand that the usual things are not right.The principle of Islam in architecture is expected tochange this. Islam can purify and even give adistinctive and meaningful input of architecturaldesign and aim to worship Allah SWT. Thus, IslamicUnderstanding becomes an additional competencythat is mandatory for UIN Malang students as a basisfor the mindset of Islamic reflection in scientificArchitecture that is studied.

Architectural research is viewed from twoperspectives; a) research that aims to reachthe future through a better understandingof the past, namely research that testsreferential acceptable ideas, and b)research that explores new ideas andconcepts that will shape the future, namelyresearch that develops a vision new andunderstanding the concept. The researchfocus is very broad and discusses issuesthat are technically oriented, conceptuallyfocused, philosophical and historical in-depth in the field.

The Department of Architecture has activemembers and researchers who areexperienced, combining teachingexperience, research and internationalstandard publications.

Research strategies, themes, and topics arebased on critical issues in academicresearch and reflect current contextualdiscourses about architecture.

Architectural research aims to contribute tothe advancement of knowledge thatinforms architectural and design practices,contributes to the creation of a liveableenvironment that is socially related andreflects good responsibility towards theenvironment, culture and society.

The theme in this research is theintegration of Islamic values in thescientific field of architecture, be itphysical, economic, social andcultural. The aim is to contribute tothe advancement of knowledge bydeveloping research findings that arebased on conceptual and empiricalapproaches.

The issues discussed in researchinvolve the use of appropriatemethods to analyze, design, assessand provide a sustainableenvironment so that it can beoccupied at different scales, rangingfrom interior, exterior, landscapearchitecture, and urban publicspaces.
