The IUFC Awards honor individuals, projects, organizations, and Tree Stewards whose work enhances the environmental health of Indiana’s cities and towns through urban forestry. Outstanding efforts in urban forestry, whether public or private, are eligible to be recognized in the competition. Lane won recognition thanks to her organization and leadership of the HCSWCD’s annual Native Tree Sale. The IUFC Awards Program is supported in part by the US Forest Service through a partnership with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Community and Urban Forestry Program. “We’re so pleased to see Claire receive this recognition for her hard work,” said Ginger Davis, Hamilton County SWCD Administrator. “Her efforts have truly helped Hamilton County expand its urban forest canopy.” Urban Forest Council Award Photo provided Claire Lane won the 2016 Individual of the Year award from the Indiana Urban Forest Council. We applaud the idea and look forward to seeing the banners soon.” The concept originated from Esther Lakes of Smith’s Jewelers. “The business district of downtown Noblesville has managed to be a healthy and vital area while incorporating and maintaining the charm of its historical buildings,” said Lakes. “The banners showing past businesses located in buildings that look the same today as they did one hundred years ago will add interest to our historic square and promote community pride. The large street department vehicles have issues navigating around these structuresand contact with them (ie a net hitting the antenna or side-view mirror) can causedamage to the vehicles and recreational equipment

According to City of Noblesville Ordinance 36-08-12 on permanentencroachments ldquoBasketball goals and other recreational equipment must be removedfrom and may not overhang the right-of-way in any manner from Oct 1 through April30 in order to avoid damage to city vehicles that must work in the right-of-way foramong other things the removal of snow leaves branches and debrisrdquo

The city allows mobile basketball goals and other mobile recreational equipmentto be permitted without an encroachment from May 1 through Sept 30 each calendaryear Basketball goals also are permitted year-round if properly placed one foot behindthe sidewalk or city right-of-way

Street Department officials will first issue warnings for prohibited equipment If aviolation is not addressed a ticket and appearance in Noblesville City Court may occurIssuing fines or confiscating goals is not the desire of the city unless a nuisance occurs

Avon is a football team that is startingto play their best football of the seasonsaid Noblesville coach Jason SimmonsThey are very solid up front on both sidesof the ball Their offensive line isfundamentally sound and they finish playswell They are physical in the run game andprotect the passer well

The Orioles passer is junior CameronMisner The quarterback has thrown for1244 yards and 16 touchdowns this seasonJunior Luke Shayotovich is Avons topreceiver with 33 catches and 10 touchdowns

Their QB Cameron Misner is accurateand puts the ball into tight windows saidSimmons They have one of the best playersin the state of Indiana Bryant Fitzgeraldthat is a difference maker in all three phasesof the game Between Fitzgerald and(Sampson) James their running game willbe a challenge to slow down

Fitzgerald a senior has been a force thisseason He has carried the ball 76 times for552 yards and five touchdowns James asophomore has 443 yards in 103 carriesand has scored seven touchdowns

football team has finished no worse than second in the leagueThe Blackhawks won the conference title in 2011 and 2012 then were runners-up

in 2013-14-15 Sheridan is guaranteed at least a second-place finish this season butthe Blackhawks want to win Theyll get that chance when they travel to Carroll Fridayto play in the winner take-all conference championship game

The Comets won the West Division of the HHC while Sheridan won the leaguesEast Division The two teams did meet in an earlier game (which did not count in theconference standings) with Carroll winning 13-0

We played them pretty good said Sheridan coach Bud Wright The coach saidhis Blackhawks gave Carroll two big plays and it scored both times

We were inside the 10(-yard line) twice and couldnt score said WrightThe Comets are undefeated for the season at 8-0 After edging Tri-County 44-42

in its first game Carroll has since beaten Delphi Tri-Central Clinton Prairie FrontierNorth White and Northwestern in addition to the Hawks

According to City of Noblesville Ordinance 36-08-12 on permanentencroachments ldquoBasketball goals and other recreational equipment must be removedfrom and may not overhang the right-of-way in any manner from Oct 1 through April30 in order to avoid damage to city vehicles that must work in the right-of-way foramong other things the removal of snow leaves branches and debrisrdquo

The city allows mobile basketball goals and other mobile recreational equipmentto be permitted without an encroachment from May 1 through Sept 30 each calendaryear Basketball goals also are permitted year-round if properly placed one foot behindthe sidewalk or city right-of-way

Street Department officials will first issue warnings for prohibited equipment If aviolation is not addressed a ticket and appearance in Noblesville City Court may occurIssuing fines or confiscating goals is not the desire of the city unless a nuisance occurs

champion The Braves defeated North Central 4-0in Wednesdays second semi-final

The Golden Eagles got their goal with 1203remaining in the first half Elle Vuotto kicked asharp shot into the net with Kelsie Smith makingthe assist

All year Elles really been flirting with beinga big moment player for us said GC coachJonathan McClure Shes so poised on the ballShes one of our more creative and confidentplayers on the ball with or without pressure withor without space Shes seen enough repetitions upto this part of the season and she has enoughconfidence to go ahead and step in and take herlook and she did on that one and was good for thegame winner again

Stagge played tremendously in such animportant game including two big saves - one with27 minutes left and the other with 13 minutes leftAvon also had one shot that nearly went in late inthe game but it hit the crossbar and went out ofdanger

She was fantastic absolutely did a brilliant jobin goal for us said McClure of Stagge Made thesaves we needed her to make and everybody infront of her did their job

17-ranked Noblesville breezed into thechampionship match by defeating McCutcheon3-0

The Millers scored all three of their goals in thefirst half Maddie Rauch scored the first one in theseventh minute of the game with Taylor Crowescoring three minutes later

Crowe stepped up again nailing a penalty kickattempt with 450 left in the first half MackenzieKincaid made a big save with two minutesremaining to preserve the shutout The Millers thenused their always-strong defense to take care ofbusiness in the second half

Avon is a football team that is startingto play their best football of the seasonsaid Noblesville coach Jason SimmonsThey are very solid up front on both sidesof the ball Their offensive line isfundamentally sound and they finish playswell They are physical in the run game andprotect the passer well

The Orioles passer is junior CameronMisner The quarterback has thrown for1244 yards and 16 touchdowns this seasonJunior Luke Shayotovich is Avons topreceiver with 33 catches and 10 touchdowns

Their QB Cameron Misner is accurateand puts the ball into tight windows saidSimmons They have one of the best playersin the state of Indiana Bryant Fitzgeraldthat is a difference maker in all three phasesof the game Between Fitzgerald and(Sampson) James their running game willbe a challenge to slow down

Fitzgerald a senior has been a force thisseason He has carried the ball 76 times for552 yards and five touchdowns James asophomore has 443 yards in 103 carriesand has scored seven touchdowns

Simmons is impressed with the Oriolesdefense as well

Defensively their defensive line is ledby two seniors Gunnar Larson and CJ HuntThese two get off the ball well and areextremely disruptive Fitzgerald and (Ian)Pendleton are playmakers on the back end

Junior quarterback Ryan Barnes whosat out last week as a precautionarymeasure is leading the Millers in rushing(757 yards in 128 carries six touchdowns)and in passing (849 yards and eighttouchdowns) Jackson Thurman has 30receptions for Noblesville both he andNolan Ginther have caught four touchdownpasses

Gremel was 20-for-33 last week againstthe Bulldogs throwing for 245 yards andtwo touchdowns

This is a great challenge for ourfootball team and program this week saidSimmons They are extremely wellcoached and they play hard We need toembrace the work it takes to stack gooddays on top of each other and work to getbetter this week

football team has finished no worse than second in the leagueThe Blackhawks won the conference title in 2011 and 2012 then were runners-up

in 2013-14-15 Sheridan is guaranteed at least a second-place finish this season butthe Blackhawks want to win Theyll get that chance when they travel to Carroll Fridayto play in the winner take-all conference championship game

The Comets won the West Division of the HHC while Sheridan won the leaguesEast Division The two teams did meet in an earlier game (which did not count in theconference standings) with Carroll winning 13-0

We played them pretty good said Sheridan coach Bud Wright The coach saidhis Blackhawks gave Carroll two big plays and it scored both times

We were inside the 10(-yard line) twice and couldnt score said WrightThe Comets are undefeated for the season at 8-0 After edging Tri-County 44-42

in its first game Carroll has since beaten Delphi Tri-Central Clinton Prairie FrontierNorth White and Northwestern in addition to the Hawks

As leaves begin to turn and fall from trees the Noblesville Street Department wantsto remind residents that mobile basketball goals are not permitted on sidewalksdriveway approaches greenspace or the street at this time

The large street department vehicles have issues navigating around these structuresand contact with them (ie a net hitting the antenna or side-view mirror) can causedamage to the vehicles and recreational equipment

According to City of Noblesville Ordinance 36-08-12 on permanentencroachments ldquoBasketball goals and other recreational equipment must be removedfrom and may not overhang the right-of-way in any manner from Oct 1 through April30 in order to avoid damage to city vehicles that must work in the right-of-way foramong other things the removal of snow leaves branches and debrisrdquo

The city allows mobile basketball goals and other mobile recreational equipmentto be permitted without an encroachment from May 1 through Sept 30 each calendaryear Basketball goals also are permitted year-round if properly placed one foot behindthe sidewalk or city right-of-way

Street Department officials will first issue warnings for prohibited equipment If aviolation is not addressed a ticket and appearance in Noblesville City Court may occurIssuing fines or confiscating goals is not the desire of the city unless a nuisance occurs

champion The Braves defeated North Central 4-0in Wednesdays second semi-final

The Golden Eagles got their goal with 1203remaining in the first half Elle Vuotto kicked asharp shot into the net with Kelsie Smith makingthe assist

All year Elles really been flirting with beinga big moment player for us said GC coachJonathan McClure Shes so poised on the ballShes one of our more creative and confidentplayers on the ball with or without pressure withor without space Shes seen enough repetitions upto this part of the season and she has enoughconfidence to go ahead and step in and take herlook and she did on that one and was good for thegame winner again

Guerin Catholics defense played wellespecially in the second half when the Orioles wereaggressively trying to tie the game The GoldenEagles were playing with a brand-new goalkeeperfreshman Sarah Stagge who came in after starterChandler Edwards suffered a season-ending injury

Stagge played tremendously in such animportant game including two big saves - one with27 minutes left and the other with 13 minutes leftAvon also had one shot that nearly went in late inthe game but it hit the crossbar and went out ofdanger

She was fantastic absolutely did a brilliant jobin goal for us said McClure of Stagge Made thesaves we needed her to make and everybody infront of her did their job

MILLERS MOVE ONUp at the Class 2A Logansport regional No

17-ranked Noblesville breezed into thechampionship match by defeating McCutcheon3-0

The Millers scored all three of their goals in thefirst half Maddie Rauch scored the first one in theseventh minute of the game with Taylor Crowescoring three minutes later

Crowe stepped up again nailing a penalty kickattempt with 450 left in the first half MackenzieKincaid made a big save with two minutesremaining to preserve the shutout The Millers thenused their always-strong defense to take care ofbusiness in the second half

Avon is a football team that is startingto play their best football of the seasonsaid Noblesville coach Jason SimmonsThey are very solid up front on both sidesof the ball Their offensive line isfundamentally sound and they finish playswell They are physical in the run game andprotect the passer well

The Orioles passer is junior CameronMisner The quarterback has thrown for1244 yards and 16 touchdowns this seasonJunior Luke Shayotovich is Avons topreceiver with 33 catches and 10 touchdowns

Their QB Cameron Misner is accurateand puts the ball into tight windows saidSimmons They have one of the best playersin the state of Indiana Bryant Fitzgeraldthat is a difference maker in all three phasesof the game Between Fitzgerald and(Sampson) James their running game willbe a challenge to slow down

Fitzgerald a senior has been a force thisseason He has carried the ball 76 times for552 yards and five touchdowns James asophomore has 443 yards in 103 carriesand has scored seven touchdowns

Simmons is impressed with the Oriolesdefense as well

Defensively their defensive line is ledby two seniors Gunnar Larson and CJ HuntThese two get off the ball well and areextremely disruptive Fitzgerald and (Ian)Pendleton are playmakers on the back end

Junior quarterback Ryan Barnes whosat out last week as a precautionarymeasure is leading the Millers in rushing(757 yards in 128 carries six touchdowns)and in passing (849 yards and eighttouchdowns) Jackson Thurman has 30receptions for Noblesville both he andNolan Ginther have caught four touchdownpasses

Gremel was 20-for-33 last week againstthe Bulldogs throwing for 245 yards andtwo touchdowns

This is a great challenge for ourfootball team and program this week saidSimmons They are extremely wellcoached and they play hard We need toembrace the work it takes to stack gooddays on top of each other and work to getbetter this week

football team has finished no worse than second in the leagueThe Blackhawks won the conference title in 2011 and 2012 then were runners-up

in 2013-14-15 Sheridan is guaranteed at least a second-place finish this season butthe Blackhawks want to win Theyll get that chance when they travel to Carroll Fridayto play in the winner take-all conference championship game

The Comets won the West Division of the HHC while Sheridan won the leaguesEast Division The two teams did meet in an earlier game (which did not count in theconference standings) with Carroll winning 13-0

We played them pretty good said Sheridan coach Bud Wright The coach saidhis Blackhawks gave Carroll two big plays and it scored both times

We were inside the 10(-yard line) twice and couldnt score said WrightThe Comets are undefeated for the season at 8-0 After edging Tri-County 44-42

in its first game Carroll has since beaten Delphi Tri-Central Clinton Prairie FrontierNorth White and Northwestern in addition to the Hawks

As leaves begin to turn and fall from trees the Noblesville Street Department wantsto remind residents that mobile basketball goals are not permitted on sidewalksdriveway approaches greenspace or the street at this time

The large street department vehicles have issues navigating around these structuresand contact with them (ie a net hitting the antenna or side-view mirror) can causedamage to the vehicles and recreational equipment

According to City of Noblesville Ordinance 36-08-12 on permanentencroachments ldquoBasketball goals and other recreational equipment must be removedfrom and may not overhang the right-of-way in any manner from Oct 1 through April30 in order to avoid damage to city vehicles that must work in the right-of-way foramong other things the removal of snow leaves branches and debrisrdquo

The city allows mobile basketball goals and other mobile recreational equipmentto be permitted without an encroachment from May 1 through Sept 30 each calendaryear Basketball goals also are permitted year-round if properly placed one foot behindthe sidewalk or city right-of-way

Street Department officials will first issue warnings for prohibited equipment If aviolation is not addressed a ticket and appearance in Noblesville City Court may occurIssuing fines or confiscating goals is not the desire of the city unless a nuisance occurs

Guerin took on No 2-ranked Avon in Wednesdaysfirst semi-final at the Class2A regional at Carmel andcame away with a 1-0victory The win moved theGolden Eagles intoSaturdays championshipwhere they will play at noonagainst No 4 Brebeuf Jesuitthe defending 2A state

champion The Braves defeated North Central 4-0in Wednesdays second semi-final

The Golden Eagles got their goal with 1203remaining in the first half Elle Vuotto kicked asharp shot into the net with Kelsie Smith makingthe assist

All year Elles really been flirting with beinga big moment player for us said GC coachJonathan McClure Shes so poised on the ballShes one of our more creative and confidentplayers on the ball with or without pressure withor without space Shes seen enough repetitions upto this part of the season and she has enoughconfidence to go ahead and step in and take herlook and she did on that one and was good for thegame winner again

Guerin Catholics defense played wellespecially in the second half when the Orioles wereaggressively trying to tie the game The GoldenEagles were playing with a brand-new goalkeeperfreshman Sarah Stagge who came in after starterChandler Edwards suffered a season-ending injury

Stagge played tremendously in such animportant game including two big saves - one with27 minutes left and the other with 13 minutes leftAvon also had one shot that nearly went in late inthe game but it hit the crossbar and went out ofdanger

She was fantastic absolutely did a brilliant jobin goal for us said McClure of Stagge Made thesaves we needed her to make and everybody infront of her did their job

MILLERS MOVE ONUp at the Class 2A Logansport regional No

17-ranked Noblesville breezed into thechampionship match by defeating McCutcheon3-0

The Millers scored all three of their goals in thefirst half Maddie Rauch scored the first one in theseventh minute of the game with Taylor Crowescoring three minutes later

Crowe stepped up again nailing a penalty kickattempt with 450 left in the first half MackenzieKincaid made a big save with two minutesremaining to preserve the shutout The Millers thenused their always-strong defense to take care ofbusiness in the second half

Noblesville will play Marion in the Saturdaychampionship which starts at 2 pm The Giantsbeat Yorktown 2-0 to advance to the final

Noblesville of course is coming off ahuge upset last week The Millers camefrom 21-0 down in the fourth quarter to stunpreviously undefeated and 6A No 6-rankedBrownsburg 22-21

Avon is a football team that is startingto play their best football of the seasonsaid Noblesville coach Jason SimmonsThey are very solid up front on both sidesof the ball Their offensive line isfundamentally sound and they finish playswell They are physical in the run game andprotect the passer well

The Orioles passer is junior CameronMisner The quarterback has thrown for1244 yards and 16 touchdowns this seasonJunior Luke Shayotovich is Avons topreceiver with 33 catches and 10 touchdowns

Their QB Cameron Misner is accurateand puts the ball into tight windows saidSimmons They have one of the best playersin the state of Indiana Bryant Fitzgeraldthat is a difference maker in all three phasesof the game Between Fitzgerald and(Sampson) James their running game willbe a challenge to slow down

Fitzgerald a senior has been a force thisseason He has carried the ball 76 times for552 yards and five touchdowns James asophomore has 443 yards in 103 carriesand has scored seven touchdowns

Simmons is impressed with the Oriolesdefense as well

Defensively their defensive line is ledby two seniors Gunnar Larson and CJ HuntThese two get off the ball well and areextremely disruptive Fitzgerald and (Ian)Pendleton are playmakers on the back end

Junior quarterback Ryan Barnes whosat out last week as a precautionarymeasure is leading the Millers in rushing(757 yards in 128 carries six touchdowns)and in passing (849 yards and eighttouchdowns) Jackson Thurman has 30receptions for Noblesville both he andNolan Ginther have caught four touchdownpasses

Gremel was 20-for-33 last week againstthe Bulldogs throwing for 245 yards andtwo touchdowns

This is a great challenge for ourfootball team and program this week saidSimmons They are extremely wellcoached and they play hard We need toembrace the work it takes to stack gooddays on top of each other and work to getbetter this week

football team has finished no worse than second in the leagueThe Blackhawks won the conference title in 2011 and 2012 then were runners-up

in 2013-14-15 Sheridan is guaranteed at least a second-place finish this season butthe Blackhawks want to win Theyll get that chance when they travel to Carroll Fridayto play in the winner take-all conference championship game

The Comets won the West Division of the HHC while Sheridan won the leaguesEast Division The two teams did meet in an earlier game (which did not count in theconference standings) with Carroll winning 13-0

We played them pretty good said Sheridan coach Bud Wright The coach saidhis Blackhawks gave Carroll two big plays and it scored both times

We were inside the 10(-yard line) twice and couldnt score said WrightThe Comets are undefeated for the season at 8-0 After edging Tri-County 44-42

in its first game Carroll has since beaten Delphi Tri-Central Clinton Prairie FrontierNorth White and Northwestern in addition to the Hawks

Theyre an undefeated team said Wright Theyre playing with confidence Theyplay with a high rate of speed They throw the ball a lot They got a good quarterbackand hes throwing for a lot of yards

The Comets quarterback is junior Trey Filburn who has thrown for 1551 yardsand 15 touchdowns Junior Devon Anderson has 29 catches including six TDs whilesenior Brandt McClain has 13 receptions five of them for touchdowns

The Hounds are coming off a tough lossto Warren Central The Warriors are rankedNo 1 in Class 6A but Carmel had a lead onWarren before it came back in the fourthquarter

football team has finished no worse than second in the leagueThe Blackhawks won the conference title in 2011 and 2012 then were runners-up

in 2013-14-15 Sheridan is guaranteed at least a second-place finish this season butthe Blackhawks want to win Theyll get that chance when they travel to Carroll Fridayto play in the winner take-all conference championship game

The Comets won the West Division of the HHC while Sheridan won the leaguesEast Division The two teams did meet in an earlier game (which did not count in theconference standings) with Carroll winning 13-0

We played them pretty good said Sheridan coach Bud Wright The coach saidhis Blackhawks gave Carroll two big plays and it scored both times

We were inside the 10(-yard line) twice and couldnt score said WrightThe Comets are undefeated for the season at 8-0 After edging Tri-County 44-42

in its first game Carroll has since beaten Delphi Tri-Central Clinton Prairie FrontierNorth White and Northwestern in addition to the Hawks

Avon is a football team that is startingto play their best football of the seasonsaid Noblesville coach Jason SimmonsThey are very solid up front on both sidesof the ball Their offensive line isfundamentally sound and they finish playswell They are physical in the run game andprotect the passer well

The Orioles passer is junior CameronMisner The quarterback has thrown for1244 yards and 16 touchdowns this seasonJunior Luke Shayotovich is Avons topreceiver with 33 catches and 10 touchdowns

Their QB Cameron Misner is accurateand puts the ball into tight windows saidSimmons They have one of the best playersin the state of Indiana Bryant Fitzgeraldthat is a difference maker in all three phasesof the game Between Fitzgerald and(Sampson) James their running game willbe a challenge to slow down
