It was the first planet discovered by a telescope instead of the naked eye

It is the 7th planet from the sun It is the 3rd largest planet in our solar

system

It was discovered by WilliamHerschel in 1781 He originally wanted to name it“George’s Star” King George lll awarded him with an annual stipend of 200 pounds

It has 5 main moons that are large The other moons are much smaller The 5 largest moons are Miranda,

Titania, Oberon, Umbriel, and Ariel.

The Titania and Oberon were discovered in 1787

The Ariel and Umbriel were discovered by William Lassell in 1851

Surface

It’s surface area is approximately 8,115,600,000 km2 .

A little more than 80% of it’s mass is it’s core

It’s core is mostly made of icy materials.

Most of it’s gases are made of water

It’s diameter is 51,500 km or 32,000 miles

The diameter is 4 times larger than Earth’s

It’s temperature is -197.15 C or -322.87° F

It is the smallest of the gas giants

It has a very faint set of 12 rings The rings are made of black dust

particles and large boulders It’s greenish blue color is due to light

scattering It’s the only planet with a sideways

rotation
