Welcome to UQ Skills, formerly UQ-GVEC, a part of the Faculty of Science at The University of Queensland Gatton campus.
UQ Skills has successfully delivered accredited training courses for a number of years, and is UQ’s only Registered Training Organisation. We provide a range of courses to assist your career development, particularly in the agricultural sector, and this program guide provides a detailed listing of all the options available to you.
We strive to prepare students for success and provide career-building skills, especially for those who may not have otherwise considered a higher education program on a university campus. The combination of vocational training and academic teaching will equip graduates for a range of careers in the increasingly technical fields related to agriculture, in positions such as farm enterprise manager, agribusiness staff, research support staff or local government officer.
As a student with UQ Skills you can undertake courses ranging from our full-time Diploma program to our Certificate programs. The courses and pathways start in regional high schools with offerings such as the Certificate II in Rural Operations, and can lead to the Diploma of Agribusiness Management, or potentially to the degree offerings at The University of Queensland, subject to Faculty of Science entry requirements. We also offer Certificate IV programs that complement many degree offerings in the Faculty, adding practical skills and experience to the undergraduate programs.
UQ Skills continues to develop its programs and make them available to students in high schools and at post-secondary level. Courses that complement the degree programs in the UQ Faculty of Science are also offered. As a part of The University of Queensland, UQ Skills enjoys access to all Gatton campus facilities necessary for students to undertake and successfully complete their training.
UQ Skills has access to the full working production units contained within the 1068 hectares of the campus, including the piggery, dairy, field crops, and equine facilities. Our students have access to these world-class facilities, together with education and training delivered by some of the finest vocational teaching staff in their fields in Australia and overseas.
I do hope you are considering UQ Skills as a part of your career development, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Gatton campus.
With warm wishes,
JANELLE ZAHMEL Chief Executive Officer UQ Skills
