The Farmer and the Stork

There once lived a stork with a trusting nature. One day, he met a crane. The crane invited the stork to join his family to visit a field. The crane told the stork that there would be good food in the field. The young stork accepted the crane’s offer. The crane introduced the stork to his family and friends. Then, they flew to the field. Once they landed in the field, a large net fell on them. The cranes and stork struggled to get out of the net but could not. Then, the stork saw the farmer and begged to be released. “Please let me go. I’m a stork and you know that all storks are honest. We’re birds of good character,” he said. The farmer listened and the stork continued, “I didn’t know the cranes were going to steal food in your field.” “You may be a good bird but I caught you with these cranes. They always steal food from the field. Therefore, you have to share the same punishment,” replied the farmer.

Jamal, the Chief Minister, apologised to Prince Fariz for tricking him. “I’m sorry but I had to do something so you wouldn’t forget about your duties to your people and country.” Prince Fariz remained silent. He thought about what Jamal had just said. “I’ve been very sad for a long time. I’d be happy for your advice on what to do first.” Jamal and Prince Fariz talked for a long time about the things that needed to be done for the people. “First, you should go to the village and meet the people. They haven’t seen you since your father passed away,” said Jamal. “That’s a good idea. I’ll ride into town disguised as a commoner and see what the people think of me. They’ll tell the truth about their new king if they think they’re talking to a stranger. I can carry out my duties well if I know what the people really need,” said Prince Fariz.
