SECTION BThis section is based on social and language expression. It aims to test a pupil’s use of : Correct social expression with visual clues as a guide Appropriate vocabulary based on given situations Parts of speech based on visual and textual clues

The questions in this section are based on pictures which show common everyday social situations. Each picture shows two or more people but only two are actively engaged in a verbal exchange. Therefore only two speech bubbles appear in each picture. You are required to study each picture carefully and determine the exact situation. Then, choose the appropriate response that fits the situation.

This section will be based on text completion. A cloze passage, which is wholly picture dependent, is given. There will be five blanks and this will test you the use of parts of speech ( grammar ) including visual and textual clues. You must look at the picture carefully and then choose the answer from the given options.

TIPS ON ANSWERING QUESTIONS 26-301. When answering the cloze passage, you have to look carefully at

the picture given. Ask yourself: What is the picture about?2. Read the passage at least twice to get a general idea of the

passage.3. Read ALL the given options A,B,C and D.4. Think of a suitable word for each blank before choosing your

answer from the given options.5. Ask yourself these questions: Does my answer make sense? Are they correct? Does the passage describe the picture correctly?6. What if you are not sure of the answer? twice so that they can have a better understanding of the text. Many pupils fail to read the passages completely and because of this find difficulty in answering the comprehension questions.

Hi Marjun,

Here is the recipe for Chicken Nuggets.

The ingredients are:

500g of minced chicken meat 100g of oats 100g of breadcrumbs

50g of corn flour 1 cube of chicken stock 1 teaspoon of black pepper powder

Some salt and cooking oil

The first thing to do is to mix the minced chicken meat, corn flour, chicken stock, salt and black pepper powder together in a bowl. After that, you shape the mixture into nuggets. Then, you roll the nuggets in the mixture of oats and bread crumbs.The next step, heat up two bowl of cooking oil in a wok. When the oil is hot, deep fry the chicken nuggets until they are golden brown. Serve the nuggets with salad, some chilli sauce and tomato sauce. Hope you will enjoy it.

Woman and son survive fifteen-metre plunge

Kota Kinabalu, Thurs – A woman and her son miraculously escaped serious injury when their car crashed through a wall and landed on another vehicle fifteen metres below in a freak accident in Telipok yesterday. The incident at the Putrajaya Park Apartment car park became the talk of the town.

The driver lost control of the car on the third floor before crashing through the wall.

The car then landed on an empty Perodua Viva on the ground floor. The victims were conscious when pulled out of the wreck and sustained only minor injuries in the incident. Both have been warded for observation at the Likas Hospital.

According to the driver’s mother, the victims were going out for an early lunch when the accident happened.

Section AQuestion 1 will be on sentence construction based on the given words and graphics. In this question, you will be given a composite picture with helping words. You may use the given words, but you may also choose not use all the words. In this question, you are required to write 5 sentences based on the picture given.

Tips for Question 1 to get band excellent (8-10):1. Do not relate to yourself ( I am reading…..).2. Do not use names/pronouns to begin the

sentence ( Ali, Ahmad,She, He…).3. Do not use time constrains unless mention in

the picture or box.4. Do not write two sentences in one line / one

number.5. Describe the person or objects.6. Use simple, compound and complex

sentences.7. Use your own/ new words if you do not know

The word transfer will be at word and phrase level into grid (a) and at sentence level while making a preference into grid (b).

Tips On Answering Section B1. When transferring information from the

original text, you should be very careful with the spelling of words transferred, capital letters and punctuations. Some common spelling mistakes by pupils are Johor Bahru spelt wrongly as Johor Bharu, television spelt as televisyen, air-conditioned spelt as air conditioned ( without hypen).

Section CThis is note expansion questions. In this question, you are required to study carefully three pictures based on a similar theme.You may or may not use all the given words/ phrases to make good sentences for each picture.

Before he left the farm, he thanked to his grandfather for his hospitality and for the knowledge he obtained from the experience. Ali had a happy time at his grandfather’s farm. 13-15 marks
