Twitter Integration
The micro-blogging feature is a great
way to build a network that can be
used for varied types of learning.
Allowing users to create their own
workspace, this tool provides a quick
ability to post status updates,
customize the feed, search and follow
new individuals, block followers and a
lot more.
Status updates are shown chronologically and updates
from friends are highlighted. Direct access to this page is
also possible.
A knowledge center based on open
Wiki technology is now available as a
part of UpsideLMS. Available to users at
all times and easily accessed through a
single click, this tool has been
seamlessly integrated with the LMS
architecture, allowing for user tracking
and accountability for Wiki edits.
Users can look up terms in the Wiki for an elaborate search,
add, edit, preview and save information on the available
pages and even create new pages if they don’t find what
they are looking for. Typical text formatting features areavailable for users to create information rich pages that are
laid out well.
As with all Wikis, the system keeps track of all the changes
made to the pages, making it easier to revert if needed.
Thus UpsideLMS provides an environment where large
amounts of tacit knowledge residing in the enterprise can
be documented, tracked and leveraged for learning.
Twitter has undoubtedly been one of
the fastest growing and influentialsocial networking services that is being
leveraged as a great learning tool.
Letting users create their own network,

UpsideLMS harnesses this powerful network through a
Twitter widget that lets users access their Twitter streams
from within the LMS interface. All typical Twitter actions are
possible through the interface – tweet, re-tweet, and direct
replies. Information gleaned from Twitter can also be
shared through the LMS micro-blogging service. While the
homepage shows only a few tweets, an expanded view of the widget lets you see all tweets, replies and direct
messages. This integration with the Twitter web service will
make it easy to share information across domains.

tool for sharing information and
opinions, and garnering feedback. Thisability to broadcast information –
knowledge, ideas, methods – and get
feedback is very helpful in enhancing
learning, especially in a social and
informal context.
The blog module has been integrated into the LMS and
most actions required for the blog can be accomplished
through the interface itself – these include creating drafts,
publishing posts, feed subscription and others. The LMS
offers a view that lets users quickly access all blog
functions. Blog updates can also be sent through email. The
blog module is based on the popular WordPress engineand has all features required to provide a true blogging
experience.
Polls offer a quick way to feel the pulse
of the public, and take action on that
basis.
Based on this verity, UpsideLMS allows
administrators to create and administer
polls to the user population for a pre-
determined period of time. This quick
poll with a single question invites users to submit a
response or modify a response as long as the poll is active.
Users also have the ability to view results of past polls.
One of the key features of social
networks is the spontaneous forming
of communities around shared
interests and concerns. UpsideLMS
now gives users the ability to create
and participate in such communities,letting users share their knowledge
and expertise with others in their
community. This sense and place of community is a
powerful force that can drive learning in the enterprise. In
the organizational context, knowledge is no longer
contained in silos defined by geography, function or
domain, and can be shared and viewed transparently.
The communities tool allows the users can create their own
communities, define the access to the communities (public
or limited to invitees or approved users), start their own
discussions, join other discussions etc. Discussions and
comments are a great place for information exchange, andthus, the communities module effectively provides the
enterprise with a tool to seed and grow communities and
impact learning positively.

RSS is rapidly becoming a popular way
to access news and other information
without having to reach out for it
regularly. UpsideLMS now comes with a
feed aggregator built-in to retrieve
feeds from the Internet and display the
items within the LMS interface in an easy-to-read and easy-
to-manage manner.
Users get a status with read and unread item counts for
their feeds with the homepage widget showing recent 5
feed items and the main reader page showing detailed
information with up to 50 recent items. Feed discovery is
through a simple search and multiple feeds can be
subscribed to; the reader instantly retrieves the latest items
for the feeds. Various typical feed management features areavailable.
UpsideLMS offers the discussion board
service as a forum for all users to
interact, ask questions, post queries, get
responses, and generally share
information across the board. This
feature functions like all standard
bulletin board services, allowing users
to post topics or respond to existing ones. Users can also
set up completely new forums.

Key to the social experience of using
UpsideLMS is the ability to add users as
friends and followers. Users can search
and befriend other users by sending an
approval request which, on approval,
connects the users as mutual friends
allowing them to see each others’
status messages on priority. Friends can
add pictures and videos which can be viewed by all their
friends, thereby facilitating knowledge sharing and
learning.
On another level, users can also follow individuals. This lets
them monitor status messages but doesn’t work mutually.
