Welcome to our 2018 Festival and our opening concert by the Zelkova Quartet, winners of the 2017 St Martin’s Chamber Music Competition. For this delightful programme they will also be joined by esteemed colleagues including former Hallé hornist Tom Redmond in Mozart’s utterly charming Quintet.

Brimming with life and energy, this eclectic selection of classical standards, folk and rare musical gems will redefine everything you thought you knew about the saxophone. Don’t miss the chance to hear why the group have such an international following on social media, including over 800,000 views of their YouTube channel.

Programme to include: Debussy Suite Bergamasque: Prélude, Menuet, Clair de lune, Passepied Debussy Rêverie Chaminade Au pays dévasté

Admission is either £5 pay on the door or with the £8 Day Ticket.French pianist Anne de Fornel marks the centenary of Debussy’s death with some of his most well-known pieces, beloved by pianists around the world, and will also play music by French First World War composers, recently recorded for her CD “Towards a New Life”.The Church Café will be open 1.15pm – 2.15pm for those wishing to purchase a light lunch between events.

Festival Competition Grand FinalCome along and support some of the region’s best upcoming talent in the Grand Final of our Festival Competition for 16 to 18-year olds.Six musicians will each play for up to 12 minutes, with the winner receiving £100, the Vincent and Heather Booth Memorial Cup and an opportunity to play a concerto with the Oldham Symphony Orchestra. We are very grateful to the Stephen Bell Charitable Trust and to the Booth Family for their generous support of this event

Haydn String Quartet in D (The “Lark”) Dvořák String Quartet in F (“American”)Kindly supported by the Stephen Bell Charitable TrustWe are delighted to welcome the Behn Quartet, recently returned from a 10-date tour of New Zealand, for their first Uppermill appearance. Come along to this early-evening, 60-minute recital and marvel at the fascinating these four gifted performers then join us for refreshments and plenty of Festival chat afterwards from 8pm. (A glass of wine or juice is included in the ticket price tonight!).

Festival favourite Kathryn Rudge returns this year to perform a new programme dedicated to the memory of Kathleen Ferrier, the legendary British contralto who passed away 65 years ago, including many of the works central to her repertoire. The evening will conclude with pieces chosen by you, following a public vote on Days 1 - 4 of the Festival!

Our 10-day journey concludes with a stellar cast drawn from our growing family of Festival musicians who present a pair of uplifting Classical concertos plus exquisite chamber works by two of the Giants of Romantic opera. Not to be missed!

Otherwise, please help us by purchasing your tickets at least a day in advance of each concert (and note that tickets for evening concerts purchased “on the door” will be subject to a £2 surcharge).
