THE FOUR-WAY TEST

OF THE THINGS WE THINK, SAY OR DO

"when  you  get  the  choice  to  sit  it  out  or  dance....I  hope  you  dance"              President  Warren  Hobbs

Ola Kidman Parkers Interesting Speaker last Tues,  PDG Bob Aitken. As we know,  we had to take our schedule earlier to get Bob to KPR but it was well worth it to hear more about a best kept secret in Australian Rotary.Bob's topic was the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund in short "supporting  healthier minds, bodies and communities through research, awareness and education". The idea was conceived by a Melbourne Rotarian on his drive home from Rotary, when he asked himself why could we not achieve this Research dream through Rotary in Australia. And here we are living his dream.  Same with Clem Renouff who conceived that Rotary International could cure the world of Polio ....and we are now close to achieving that ....with a little bit of help from Bill Gates. It would be great for KPR to run a fundraiser project and incorporate the ARHRF as one of the beneficiaries of that project and perhaps supplement that from our KPR Charitable Trust.??  Food for thought. You will receive your Board Meeting Minutes over the next few days being sent to our KPR Members ....not to all on our Newsletter list.We endeavour to have that level of communication so that we are all are aware of what is going on at Board level at KPR.This may lead to some input from members at our Club Assembly for this Tuesday night. We will also be having our own Allen Pinto address us about Web Design and a practical run through our KPR website. Allen arrives back from 3 weeks in India  this weekend with his brother.  You will learn a little more about KPR on the night. The Stop Press is that we will have  a group of 5 people inducted at KPR on 21st JuneThis is covered in a separate article in this KK.

Our last holiday weekend for a while ....enjoy and safe travels Tchau,Pres Warren

Semaphore Carousel & Joker Draw Rosters:

Ron Harris circulated a Round Robin at the Dinner meeting on June 7th, seeking expressions of interest from Members to be included on rosters for: -

• Semaphore Carousel. (NOTE: Kidman Park is generally allocated one weekend every 4-6 weeks, usually comprising two shifts on a Saturday and a further two shifts on a Sunday.)

• Joker Draw - Selling the tickets and conducting the draw. (Depending on the number of volunteers, you may be rostered once every 6-8 weeks)

If you were not at the last Dinner Meeting and are willing to be added to a roster, please contact Ron Harris.

Community:

The Rotary Club cooked a Charles Sturt Council community BBQ at the Bower Cottages on Sunday rather than at West Street which has no shelter from the rain.

There were a few very heavy showers during the lunch time BBQ, hence the BBQ plate had pooling water occasionally, but the Team kept on going come hail or shine without any problems.!!!

I thanked the Team of BBQ volunteers (who were all local residents) for their help at this BBQ.

I received a thank you email from Gale Roberts who is the Council's development officer at Bower Cottages, Semaphore Park.

The event was a success and our BBQ performed admirably.

The Atheist

An atheist was walking through the woods.

What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals! he said to himself.

As he continued walking alongside the river he heard a rustling in the bushes.

Turning to look, he saw a 7 foot grizzly bear charging towards him.

He ran as fast as he could up the path. Looking over his shoulder he saw that the bear was closing in on him.

His heart was pumping frantically and he tried to run even faster. He tripped and fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but saw the bear raising his paw to take a swipe at him.

At that instant the atheist cried out “Oh my God!!!!”

Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent.

It was then that bright light shine upon the man and a voice came out of the sky saying.

“You deny my existence for all these years, teaching others I don’t exist and even credit the Creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament?”

“Am I to count you as a believer?”

The atheist looked at the light, “It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps you could make the BEAR a Christian.”

“Very well” said the Voice.

The light went out and the sound of the forest resumed.

And then the Bear lowered his paw, bowed his head and spoke.

“Lord, bless this food which I am about to receive, and for which I am truly thankful.”

The Donkey

One day a farmer’s donkey fell into a well. The animal cried pitifully for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally he decided the animal was old and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it wasn’t worth it to try and retrieve the donkey.

He invited his neighbour’s to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.

At first, the donkey realised what was happening and cried horribly. Then to everyone’s amazement he quietened down.

A few shovels loads later, the farmer looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey would shake it off and take a step up.As the farmer’s neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top of the donkey, he would shake it off and step up. Pretty soon everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped out of the well and happily trotted off.

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt.

The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:• Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.• Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.• Live simply and appreciate what you have.• Give more.• Expect less.

NOW......

Enough of that ...

The donkey cam back later, and bit the sh..t out of the farmer who had tried to bury him. The gash got infected, and the farmer eventually died in agony from septic shock.

Moral from this tale:

When you do something wrong, and try to cover your Ass, it always comes back to bite you.
