Do you have some time to help fellow 99s enhance their futures? If so, consider join-ing with others in our Chapter to mentor women pilots who are seeking awards and scholarships. It takes a small amount of time to share your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to help aspiring or upgrading pilots continue their journey. As many of you know it’s incredibly satisfying to help others achieve their goals.

In addition to moral support, the awards have additional ‘formal’ tasks such as advis-ing, monthly contact (minimum) and in the case of the Amelia Earhart Fly Now Award you provide monthly updates to the Trustees and sign requests for payments to the student’s training center. You can view the formal document at:

https://www.ninety-nines.org/userfiles/file/AEMSF/FlyNowApplication.pdf on page 6.

I’d like to maintain a list of those of you who want to be mentors so that our scholarship applicants can have that ‘square’ filled quickly thereby reducing the stress of ‘asking around’. Please contact me so that I can add your name. We need mentors at least twice a year (March and September) for the Fly Now award. Inspire a fellow pilot today!

Find caps, hats, sweats, duffels and shirts! There is everything you need with a cool 99s logo on the official eStore site.

For the third year in a row, Crosswind Chatter editor, Margot Plummer came in

second place in her age group (70-75) in the Slack-er 4-mile run. The starting point was Silver Plume, the finish was Georgetown. It was 37 degrees upon arri-val in Georgetown for park-ing.

Uh, oh! At the Fort Morgan airmarking, we ran out of blue paint. It was hot and windy, but we were getting the job done. Near the end of our task, it was apparent the blue paint was going to run out. The airport em-ployee, Branden Arroyo, took off to get more, but after an hour waiting in 90-degree heat, with the density alti-tude, we decided to let the airport personnel finish it off, which they did. And on June 27, Stephanie Wells, Sarah Denton and her boyfriend Scott Frank, flew to Fort Morgan, enlarged 99s logo.

Volunteers helping were Lynn Merrill, Jan Lonsdale, Linda Horn, Margot Plummer, Lydia Baldwin, Scott Frank, Theresa Monroe, Emily Salley, Terry Fiala, Kar-len Krall, June Stewart, Cindy Miller, Sarah Denton, Laura Shulz, Gabriela Escalante and Branden Arroyo.

Remembering Ann LuceRemembering Ann Luce Ann Luce was one of the most colorful women in the Colorado Chapter. She was an accom-plished art teacher and artist. Ann hosted the Chapter picnic many times at her fabulous home on the hogback ridge above Highway 72 near the mouth of Coal Creek Canyon.

In her younger years, Ann lived in Massachusetts where she

piloted a 36-foot sailboat and, with her two sons, cruised the New England coast.

Ann was a graduate of St. Timothy's and Vas-sar College, she also attended the Maryland Institute in Baltimore and the Art Students League in NYC.

Ann passed away on January 11, 2017, she was 91. Extended obituary.

The Crosswind Chatter is always looking for some aviation-related news, tips or safety articles from Chapter members. If you would like to contribute, please contact Margot Plummer, Crosswind Chat-ter Editor

The 2017 International Conference is being hosted by the South Central Section in San Antonio, Texas, July 11-17.

Since the Colorado Chapter is part of the South Central Section, we have several fun and interesting opportunities to help and get involved.

VOLUNTEERS If you are planning to attend, remember that as a South Central Section Chapter, we are all hostesses for the 2017

Conference. How would you like to help? Volunteers are needed for transporta-tion, airport hospitality, hospitality suite, hotel greeters, 99s reps on optional tours, banquet set-up, seminar support, fly market support, and registration desk. If you are not already assigned to a committee, let Reni Baker [email protected] or Cathy Prudhomme [email protected] know that you can help, and they will put you in touch with the Committee Chairman.

Each chapter has been requested to create a centerpiece or two for the Awards Banquet on Saturday night. Many thanks to Sue Osborne who has taken on this task for our Chapter and has designed and completed two that represent the Colorado Chapter.

MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL - REGISTER!

This is our party, and SCS members need to be there in full force! The Confer-ence site is www.travelplannerstexas.com/99s2017.

Are you interested in a fun way to identify your passion, rid fears, improve your judgment and your confidence while flying planes? Then check out the Woman Wise Awesome Adventure (WWAA) seminar in Cascade, ID this July 6-9th!

It is four days of ground and flight instructions with an incredible group of women from an à la carte menu of your choosing: spin training, aerobatics, backcountry aviation, instrument instruction and float planes. Addi-tionally, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful Idaho wil-derness, partake in hikes, sunrise yoga sessions and massages!

For those of you who know of WWAA, will you be at-tending? I will be going and would love to get a gaggle of us ladies to travel up north together for this summer’s event.

If you would like to learn more about WWAA, check out the website at: https://www.christinatindle.com/flying.html

If you are interested in joining the travel group, please feel free to contact me via email at: [email protected] or via phone at 720-660-8561.

I’ll see you in the friendly skies, Cassandra Reed

Mark your calendar for the Poker Run - Saturday, September 9th! Our annual Poker Run raises money for the Colorado 99s Future Woman Pilot Scholarship Fund.

This year's route is: Centennial (KAPA), Rocky Mountain Metro (KBJC), Front Range (KFTG), Fort Collins-Loveland (KFNL), and terminus Greeley (KGXY).

This event is our primary fundraiser for the scholarship fund, and many volunteers are needed to ensure its success. If you don't plan to participate by flying, please consider helping out on the ground in one of the following ways:

handing out cards at one of the airports tallying final scores at the terminus in Greeley contributing or securing a prize for the awards ceremony at the terminus marketing assistance - getting the word out to pilots and local aviation organizations

We always have a great time with this event! Please contact Terry Fiala at [email protected] or 650-307-2304 to contribute your time and expertise.
