Dear CIL Community, Monday was the first day of school and we are on for another exiting Term! March came with some very exiting news: from Marie LeNôtre newly published Memoir Appetites to welcoming exchange students from France and celebrating French Gastronomy with the Good France dinner. This term will also be full of opportunities with a TCA conference and the legendary Ben E. Keith competition in April. Among plenty of other things...Stay tuned! The theme of the Conference will be “Mastering the Art of Culinary Competitions.” The speakers will be Chef Alex Darvishi (Executive Chef at Houston Country Club, team manager of the 2012 gold medal Junior team USA), Jones Ewart (TCA president) and Kris Jakob. Marie LeNôtre publishes her Memoir, Appetites.

Marie LeNôtre, our school director, just released her Memoir: Appetites, an intimate journey in the secrets of Culinary Institute LeNôtre. Appetites begins with two story lines—the early life of Marie and that of her husband Alain—then melds into the story of the birth of their Culinary Institute. The book offers a unique perspective on the LeNôtre Empire history and the creation of Culinary Institute LeNôtre. Find all information here.

Do not miss the food movies monthly screenings at the Institute! Always free, with pop-corn and beverages! Screenings take place every first Thursday of each month, at 1:15pm and 6:00pm in the Crump Amphitheater. Students can come right after class! More info here.

Last Term Recap

2015 Gala: A Valentine’s Inspired Night of Giving to the Gaston LeNôtre Scholarship Fund

The February 13, 2015 Champagne & Chocolat Scholarship Gala at the River Oaks Country Club was a smashing success, raising $185,000 for scholarships for deserving students of the Culinary Institute LeNôtre. Paula Sutton received the 2015 Gaston LeNôtre Scholarship Ambassador Award for her exemplary community leadership and outstanding contributions to the scholarship fund. Guests enjoyed a spectacular array of desserts including chocolates, macaroons, tarts, pastries and magnificent center pieces prepared by the Culinary Institute LeNôtre Students. Scholarship Alumnus Ambassador Chef Drew Rogers and student Carvis Turner shared the tremendous impact the scholarship had on their lives. Thanks everyone for your participation! Student Appreciation Day at C.I.L.: Culinary Rodeo

On February 24 was Student Appreciation Day at Culinary Institute LeNôtre! Students strapped on their boots for a Culinary Rodeo. The BBQ cook-off competition winner is: Chef Jean’s class with Smoked Pork Slider and Hot Links Sausages. Congrats! 2nd position: Chef Cody’s class with Barbecue Rib, and 2 teams tied for 3rd place: Chef Jacques’ class with Texas Drunken Chicken and Chef Yannick’s class with Rodeo Pastry Buffet Western Cakes Display winner is Laura Vargas with her cake #4 Urban Cowgirl. Raffle winners are Aundria Sims – Lisa Nguyen – Luis Morales – Sonia Espinoza – Angel Oidor – Benjamin Maxwell – Skye Racchini – Tonia Haskett – Heather McDougald – Mariha Borash. Theyreceived tickets to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Thanks to all chefs and participating students. Congratulations to all Honor Roll students. Find all pictures here.

Culture CornerCulinary Institute LeNôtre is part of the French Cultures Festival

In February, Culinary Institute LeNôtre Students participated to the consulate’s video, “Parlez-vous Français”, to promote French Cultures in Texas. See the video right here.

Culinary Institute LeNôtre also had a booth at the Kick-off concert of the French Cultures Festival on March 13th at Discovery Green. Thanks to our students who volunteered! Click here to see all information about French Cultures Festival.

Culinary Institute LeNôtre hosts Good France

Finally, Culinary Institute LeNôtre is hosting Good France, an internationally celebrated special dinner dedicated to French Gastronomy. Organized by Alain Ducasse and France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Good France will be in action March 19th across the globe. Inspired by August Escoffier, who founded The Epicurean Dinners – the same menu, same day, involving participating restaurants worldwide and focused on gathering as many diners as possible – in 1912. Students get a special prize: $70, Taxes Wine and Gratuity included. Marie LeNôtre will be signing her book and share stories and movie excerpts before dinner. All book proceeds will be donated to the Gaston LeNôtre Scholarship Fund.

French Exchange Students in Houston

In March and April, Culinary Institute LeNôtre will welcome exchange Pastry Arts students from France. They are arriving on Monday, March 16th and will be returning to France on Monday, April 13th. If any student is interested in showing them what Houston has to offer, the Institute is willing to reimburse students for a portion of the expenses. Culinary Institute LeNôtre’s partnership with French School Nôtre Dame du Roc since 2009 allows us to send every year many students (eight students this year) for externships in France and a cultural trip to Paris! Free Mentoring Program

All students are welcome at the Student Mentor Program. Student Mentor Program is hosted by Chef Rich Popović in the South Campus. Chef Rich is available for Academic Tutoring and Advisement, Professional Guidance and Personal Navigation.
