2 GUI2 PROGRAM

The purpose of this GUI2 Program is to enable extraction of MetaData Tags etc. in an organized and structured way with a well defined system of output file naming. The GUI2 program uses ExifTool by Phil Harvey to extract the image metadata

3 GUI2 GENERAL This GUI2 is designed to give “structured output” and to allow you to easily customize your preferred options. The GUI2 consists of eleven sub menus including Editor & Browser. All Drop down lists items such as in “Select Tag Group” in A Menu appear in alphabetic order irrespective of entry location in .INI file.

Figure 1 the GUI2 Primary menu The A Menu helps the user to get an understanding of the Shooting Information (MataData) stored in Digital Images Outputs can be Sorted or Unsorted. Customization in this Menu is : a) Image Type which applies to all options b) Select Tag Group which applies to option h) and will save all Tag Groups each with its own unique file name.

You can edit / create your own Tag Group INI file to suit your requirements using the built in Editor.

3.1 HANDLING EXIFTOOL UPDATES

Check for updates on http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

Read the installation instructions for help installing ExifTool on Windows

http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/install.html

Uninstalling:

Option 1 (Recommended)

At "ExifTool updates" I will leave "OLD Version" available for Download as well as Updated version, this is the easiest method to UPDATE for New ExifTool Versions :

a) e.g. use the Current SetupGUI2(Install_UnInstall_930).exe to UnInstall ExifTool version 9.30

b) use NEW Version SetupGUI2(Install_UnInstall_931).exe to Install updated ExifTool program Version98.31 [ 931 indicates ExifTool Version 9.31]

Option 2

Drag "C:\WINDOWS\exiftool.exe") into the Recycle Bin.

Drag the directory "par-USER" from your temporary directory to the Recycle bin.

Here "USER" is your Windows user name and the location of the temporary directory depends on the value of the TEMP environment variable typically

"C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Temp" with Windows XP,or

"C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp" with Windows 7).

Installing New Version:

Rename "exiftool(-k).exe" to "exiftool.exe".

5 GUI2 LIMITATIONS

Tested on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7

No Mac version

All ExifTool capabilities are NOT included in this version.

5.1.1 Tags per image (a menu only)

For A Menu options a)…d) the GUI2 limitations are for maximum of 600 Tags per Image. This is because the GUI2 generates an additional file which can be sorted and is currently set to max 600 Tags.

5.1.2 Customization – Duplicate Tags Identification (B menu) New Duplicate_Tags.INI file added for new drop down list New option 7. Used to differentiate between duplicate Tags e.g. F Number Color Space ISO Lens Lens Type etc Using exiftool –fnumber –a –G4 image.JPG etc to get Copy1 Copy2 values to use with Format files [ ] F Number : 9.0 [Copy1 ] F Number : 8.9 [ Copy2] F Number : 9 i.e. $Copy1:Canon:fnumber in Format file to extract F Number : 8.9

5.1.3 Customization - camera make (D menu)

Maximum of 50 Camera Makes can be added to Camera_Make.INI file, order is not important as they will be sorted in the Camera selection list.

5.1.4 Customization - GUI.INI - file(image filter) See GUI2 Appendix 1(Version 4.0 Rev A) Figure 11B Maximum of five Image types

If the file does not exist it is automatically generated when you run the program You can edit the INI file and change to your personal preferences using the built in Edit function. The first word in any of the five lines must not be changed, location on the line does not matter. You must leave at least one space after FilterA FilterB etc. Set your highest preference at FilterA as this is the one that will appear as default in the file selection window. At File selection window you can decide the “Image type” by selecting and changing your Image Type filter

Default Setting [Image Filter - Max 5 entries] FilterA JPG FilterB CR2 FilterC CRW FilterD Jpeg2000 FilterE B2P You can Edit this file and include your preferred Image types. Note : You must leave minimum of one space after each of the FilterX entries when customizing to your preferred Image Types, i.e. one space between FilterA and JPG
