Eugene Burchett, 71, a former bus driver for Coweta Public Schools, pleaded guilty and was
sentenced to a total of 50 years in prison today.
Burchett was sentenced for six counts of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16, one
count of performing a lewd act in the presence of a minor, one count of lewd or indecent
acts to a child under 16, and one count of lewd or indecent proposals to a child under 16.
He will serve 30 years for the first four counts and 20 years for the five additional counts.
The sentence is to be served concurrently and he will be required to serve 85 percent of his
prison term before he is eligible for parole according to Wagoner County District Attorney
Brian Kuester.
“I’m happy we were able to resolve the case in a way which the victims were not required to
testify and we were not only able to protect these children, but other children from all
criminal acts by this defendant,” Kuester said.
Burchett was arrested April 18 and has been held in the Wagoner County Jail.
