The definition of a working platform:

• can be permanent or temporary

• is designed to allow a single person or multiple

people to carry out a task

• must be suitably designed for the specific

requirements (routine and non-routine work)

• must be manufactured in such a way that allows

its safe installation, use and dismantling

Commonly known:

• Scaffolding and

Formwork platforms

• MEWPS

• Scissor lifts

• Cherry pickers

• Man-basket and hoists

• Ladders (although not

recommended)

Not so Common:

• Barges & Pontoons

• Forklifts & Tele-handlers

• Silos & Storage bins

• Roofs and crawler boards

• Oil rigs and onshore

drilling rigs

Maintained

Local Legislation

Labour Law No. 8 – Ministerial Order 32/82 – Article 7

- “conditions at the workplace”

Abu Dhabi Municipality H&S Construction Codes of

Practice, Part 2, section 29

- Scaffolding, Ladders, Cradles and Safety Nets

Many other sections cover working platform requirements

Scaffold Boarding Requirements

Minimum of

• 3 boards if only people

• 4 boards for people and materials

• 5 boards for use with trestles

• 6 boards for use by masons

So why do we constantly find,.........

• and for other types of unsafe platforms,...

sadly commonly found in the UAE,....

Any Questions?
