The definition of a working platform:
• can be permanent or temporary
• is designed to allow a single person or multiple
people to carry out a task
• must be suitably designed for the specific
requirements (routine and non-routine work)
• must be manufactured in such a way that allows
its safe installation, use and dismantling
Commonly known:
• Scaffolding and
Formwork platforms
• MEWPS
• Scissor lifts
• Cherry pickers
• Man-basket and hoists
• Ladders (although not
recommended)
Not so Common:
• Barges & Pontoons
• Forklifts & Tele-handlers
• Silos & Storage bins
• Roofs and crawler boards
• Oil rigs and onshore
drilling rigs

Minimum of
• 3 boards if only people
• 4 boards for people and materials
• 5 boards for use with trestles
• 6 boards for use by masons
