• In this village, people are facing difficulties like removing the cow dung that
consumes a lot time and also involving health issues.
• Mr.NarshingRao (resident of village) has to spray pesticides to the fields for his
daily wage. He is facing the problem of carrying sprayer on his back all the time and
the chemicals result in to many health issues.
• For harvesting the paddy fields it requires large number of labour. But in the
harvesting season, labour is in great demand and very difficult to find and hire.
• There is no proper dumping area so people throw waste on the roads and make the
village untidy.
• Our Community Partner Mr. S.K.Iqbal from Gowdavelli village. His age is 55 years
and he is a shop keeper. In his village they are facing problem in disposing waste.
The GHMC people visit once in three days to collect the garbage waste. Villagers
are dumping the garbage in their surrounding areas, roads and the area near the
railway station. The shop is located in the vicinity of railway station due to which
our community partner is facing the problem of stink and dirt. They do not have
proper disposal garbage bags.
• Our community partner Bhoomaiah is the water supplier of the village Gowdaveli.
He has to fill multiple tanks and often forgets to switch off the pump set. This leads
to lot of water wastage and decreases the water table. This further leads to water
shortage in the months of summer.
• Problems faced by farmers while spraying fertilizers - Back ache due to the heavy
weight of fertilizer tanks and becoming victims of skin allergies while spraying
insecticides.
• Our Community Partner Mr. Souraih is 67 yrs old person staying in gowdavelli
village and working as a gardener in an engineering college. This college is having
approximately 3000 square feet of lawn area. His work is to trim & clean the grass
of the lawn on alternate days. While doing this work, he is facing the problem of
pushing the heavy weight machine and also to carry a direct AC power supply wire
all over the lawn. It is a time consuming work for him.

level ,difficult to control the machine in narrow areas and 25%of the peanuts can
not be plucked from the ground. Due to his age & other medical issues, he is facing
problem with the existing machine. On interaction with him, we came to know that
he wishes to get a machine which can reduce his burden.
• In this village there is no dustbin to throw the waste. So we are trying to design a
smart dustbin which opens automatically when a person comes near it . If the dust

List of Problems Identified in Basuregadi Village
• Ms.Amrutha working as an anganawadi teacher. In anganawadi center, there is no
proper security for students and wash rooms are also not in proper condition.
• On one side of the village, there is no proper drainage system so the water gets
stagnated on either sides of the roads. Eventually becomes a breeding ground for
mosquitoes.

cows which is their major source of income. To maintain the cleanliness they need to
remove cow dung everyday which is a tough job. This requires lot of effort and time.
To address the above problem, we discovered one solution which will provide an
easy remedy to the above mentioned task. We are working on one device with which
the removal of the cow dung is made easy without much effort and saves time.

farmer.
• Our Community Partner Mr. RamuGoud staying in D Pochampally village. They
have a lake in their village which is ill maintained, people find it difficult to clean the
lake, due to it’s depth. He wishes for a machine which can clean the lake without
risking life of anyone during its cleaning.
• Farmers are facing problems to remove stones in the field which they need to get
removed before cultivating the fields. Its time consuming and a herculean task for
them.
• We as a team decided to provide a solution for our community partner by which he
can do his work easily and efficiently. Therefore, we have come up with an idea of
making solar pool skimmer which can be operated from any remote place. After
considering the consumption of electricity in the existing product, we have decided
to make this solar pool skimmer a complete environment friendly product.
• We have found the problem in the fields of village. farmers are facing problems to
remove the stones in the field which they need to remove before cultivating the
fields. Its time consuming and difficult task for them. We can solve this problem by
providing engineering solution. We can make one device which will clean not only
stones but also other things which may interrupt to cultivate the field.

for sowing seeds. Even after spending much amount, the seeds are sown randomly
and sometimes lot of seeds are dropped at the same place or very close to each other.
We as a team came up with a solution to help him by making a device that can solve
these problems.

Grassroots Innovation Report
It is a grass root innovation programme. It helps farmers to solve their own problems in
new and cheaper ways than the existing products in the market with the basic knowledge
they possess. It also helps such farmer - entrepreneurs to sell their innovations all over the
country, thus helping many others of their class. It shows that lack of education and
technical expertise cannot become barriers for innovation as long as there is a wish and will
to do. They have brought out many innovations into the market like:
➢ Mahipalweeder
➢ Sri tailam
➢ Air filter
➢ Solar fertilizer
➢ Tree climber
Pedal pump:
It has been invented by B. Mallesh. It can pump up water upto 25 feet. It is a variation of
the hand pump. In the hand pump the strain falls on the hands. In this case it is borne by
the legs. The strain produced is also much less. It doesn't run on any form of electricity or
fuel, just on the power of legs.
On April 13, 2019 the engineering project in community service project expo was held at
our college. Students of various branches took part in this expo. Students displayed their
projects done in epics. The final year students also took part in this expo, they displayed
their major projects and other various projects in the expo. The major attraction of the
expo was Palle Srujana (grassroots innovations), which is an organization that helps
farmers and other villagers in finding solution to their problems they are facing. In the
project expo various machines and methods were displayed by Palle Srujana that were
designed and developed by the farmers.
Palle Srujana displayed various machines such as the soil digging machine that is made by
a farmers, this machine helps them to dig the soil faster and in more efficient way. The
motor of the soil digging machine can also be used as a pump for pulling the water from
ground or well and then supply that water to fields.
The other inventions were the solar powered mobile charger which uses the solar energy to
charge the cell phones. The tree climber, which is a simple yet easy and fast way to climb
coconut trees with the help of few moving parts. The electric pole climber, in this the pair
of slippers were attached to specially designed iron frame that holds the electricity pole
with grip. Dishwasher ,herbal fertilizer made of tulasi leaves and herbs, solar fertilizer
sprayer-which use solar energy to run a pump that sprays the liquid.
This equipment’s made by farmers and urban people show that a person does not need any
degree to achieve their requirements and dreams.

Summary:
The event emphasized on the development of various fields related to science which
included healthcare, technology, education and safe transport system. Nature provides
abundant knowledge and those who live in nature absorb it easily. They leverage such
knowledge for their livelihood and for the benefit of human comfort, improve the quality of
life, preserve biodiversity, and above all maintain harmony with nature.
Interaction session with Palle Srujana organizers and HITAM students. Students
learned about grass root innovations and their importance in community services.
Discussed real time problems like example, solar fertilizer sprayer which is invented by
Farmer, electric pole climber, solar refrigerator, etc. The students, hence were exposed to
the development of the current day technologies which is growing by leaps and bounds.
