A territorial teacher’s college. A bustling commuter
campus. Oklahoma’s third largest university. The
University of Central Oklahoma has experienced many
transformations over the past 125 years. Some, like
our institution’s name changes, are obvious. Others
are subtle, like the spark on a student’s face when he
or she connects with the right major or makes a new
friend. Each transformation has put Central on a path
to become the state’s leading metropolitan university,
using our connection to the thriving Oklahoma City
metro to offer better opportunities to our students and
the community.
Our founders didn’t know how the surrounding
community would evolve. They simply knew that
education would matter. Likewise, we can’t know
for sure what the future will bring. But the personal
experience, strong connections, and innovative spirit
you’ll find at Central ensure you’re confident and ready
for whatever comes next.

As Oklahoma’s metropolitan university,
Central is the right location for your
success. You get the best of both worlds
– the “small town” feel of Edmond, with
the big city excitement of the Oklahoma
City metro. Our location is key to your
educational experience. Both Edmond
and OKC are booming, meaning Central
connects you to hundreds of internship and
job opportunities, as well as off campus
dining, recreation and entertainment
options. You might even take a class at
the ACM@UCO in Bricktown or UCO
Downtown, or go to an event at our new
CHK-Central Boathouse on the Oklahoma
River. Plus, both communities consistently
rank nationally among the safest, affordable
and economically viable places to live.

From Central, you can see the world –
either across the ocean or right outside
your residence hall door. Through
our Centre for Global Competency,
our students can study abroad for a
semester at a sister institution, go on
a short study tour, or participate in an
international internship. The CGC also
offers cultural programs on campus, like
Broncho Buddies, which pairs domestic
UCO students with an international
student to attend events and activities
throughout the year. You can also get
involved in an on-campus event or
organization that connects you to the
many cultures of Central. You can even
build your resume by earning a Global
Competency Certificate!
