Sep 9, 2009 – C.P. Ravikumar visited SRM

University, Chennai, for taking part in their third

annual student technical festival called AARUSH 3.0.

He delivered an introductory talk on the topic of

“Embedded Systems” to a student audience.

Sep 12, 2009 – We are happy to announce that the

Department of Electronics and Communication

Engineering at RVCE, Bangalore, has approved an

elective course on “Advanced Analog Circuits”

proposed by Texas Instruments, India for the

students of the sixth semester. The course will be

offered in the semester starting Jan 2010 and will

comprise the following topics.

Single Transistor Amplifier

Differential Amplifier

Current Mirrors

Frequency Response

Noise

Stability and Frequency Compensation

Amplifier Design

The course will also include lab-work. We are excited

by the prospect of this industry-academia interaction

and expect that it will benefit the students as well as

the faculty of the department. Many thanks to Prof.

S. Jagannathan, Head of the Department of ECE,

RVCE, Prof. B.V. Uma, and Prof. Gopal Rao of the

same department, for their help and leadership in

this initiative.

Sep 17, 2009 – C.P. Ravikumar visited the

Coimbatore Institute of Technology to inaugurate

the “Signals, Transforms & Applications” workshop

conducted by the Department of Electronics and

Communication, CIT. After the inauguration,

Ravikumar delivered a talk on “Evolution of DSP

Architectures.” The workshop was attended by over

50 engineering faculty as well as some students. On

Sep 18, 2009, in the same workshop, Cranes

Software (TI India University Partner) conducted a

hands-on workshop on TI DSP. We thank Prof.

Rajeswari, Head of the Department, Electronics and

Communication, and her faculty colleagues for the

invitation and hospitality.

During the talk, one of the faculty asked about the

significance of the number “320” in TMS320 series

of DSP. Here is the response we received from Gene

Frantz, TI Principal Fellow. “It was decided in the

early 1980s/late 1970s that we needed to have an

organized method of identifying our microprocessor

product families. Prior to that, the part number of a

device was the next number in sequence. Meaning,

there was no association among like devices. This

orderliness was considered a move forward in

making it easy for our customers to understand our

product lines.”

Oct 8, 2009 – C.P. Ravikumar visited the Vellore

Institute of Technology to deliver an invited talk on

“From VLSI Design to Embedded Systems – the

natural progression for India” as part of the

Conference on Communication Technologies & VLSI

Design organized by the School of Electrical

Sciences, VIT. Dr. Chandra Shekhar, Director, CEERI

Pilani, delivered a keynote talk where he also

emphasized the importance of innovation in Indian

Universities. We thank Prof. Partha Sharathi Mallick

of VIT and his faculty colleagues for the invitation

and hospitality.

Abhishek Jacob Dennis for TI India demonstrating the

BeagleBoard at SRM University

October 10, 2009 - A “Beagleboard Workshop” was

conducted by Abhishek Dennis Jacob at SRM

University in Chennai. It was attended by about 350

students. In addition to a lecture, Abhishek also

demonstrated the capabilities of BeagleBoard. We

thank Prof. Malar Vizhi, Head of the Department of

Electronics and Communication, SRM University, for

the hospitalities.

UniTI on Campus – Events in 4Q, 2009

In 2009, UniTI held close to 50 events in Indian University campuses. These events included train-the-trainer

programs, workshops and seminars on TI DSP, Microcontrollers, and Analog products. In addition, we also

enabled several experts from TI to visit campuses to deliver lectures on Embedded Systems and VLSI Design.

About 5000 students and faculty benefited from these events. In the fourth quarter, 28 events were held.
