SHOOTING EDUCATIONThe Shooting Education program is designed to

teach responsible gun handling to boys and girls,ages 8through 14.The four basic ingredients of the program are

education, safety, enjoyment and competition.Over the past 25years, The U.S. Jaycee Shooting

ST. JUDE CIDLDREN'SRESEARCH HOSPITAL

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, foundedbyDanny Thomas, opened its doors inFebruary 1962,inMemphis, Tennessee.

St. Jude isthe onlychildren's hospital inAmericadoing basic and clinicalresearch into the causes and curesof childhood cancer, leukemia, muscle disorders andother catastrophic childhood diseases.

Treating more than 10,000patients from 39 statesand 30foreigncountries, St. Jude isthe largest childhood

cancer research center in the world. The institution isleading the way to new treatment procedures that havegreatly increased the rate of survival and may one dayhelp discover a cure.

Since 1982,Jaycee organizations have generatedmore than $3 million for St. Jude Children's Research

Hospital. Jaycees have raised funds for research at St.Jude through projects such as Bike-a-thons, Math-aThons®, Radio-thons and canister drives. IChapterincentives are available from St. Jude for many events.

A finalcheck presentation is made by The U.S.Jaycees president to Danny Thomas at the AnnualMeeting inJune. Awards recognizing chapters and statesfor outstanding fundraising efforts are also presented at

OUTSTANDING YOUNGFARMER

The Outstanding Young Farmer program is agrassroots project initiated by Jaycee chapters for thepurpose of honoring young farmers who have madesignificantachievements throughout the year.

One farmer, deemed the most outstanding, ischosen to represent the community at the state level.From among the state winners, a panel of agriculturalexperts selectsAmerica'sfourOutstanding YoungFarmersfor the program year.

The heart of the program is in the community.Through implementation of the program and recognitionof the winners, Jaycee chapters establish a meaningfulrapport between community leaders and their ruralneighbors. The culmination of the OYF program is itsnational awards congress which brings national attentionto this important interaction between city and farm.

OYF may be run by your chapter just like aDistinguished Service Award or Outstanding YoungCitizen recognition banquet. Then you may enter yourOYF honoree inyour state's OYF program. The winnerof the state OW competition is eligible for nationaljudging.

March of Dimes - The U.S. Jaycees Board ofDirectors approved March ofDimes (MOD) as a LibraryStatus program for 1988-89,to support the MOD in itseffort to eradicate birth defects. Jaycees can work inprograms such as WalkAmerica/TeamWalk, Mothers'March and educational initiatives.Training and guidanceis provided by the March of Dimes, with Chairman'sPlanning Guides available for projects.

Jaycees can be involved in the key to the work oftheMarch ofDimes -prevention. Through their fundraisingefforts for the March of Dimes, continuing research,public education, professional education and medical

services can be provided to those who are in need.A program kit detailing how to run a project to
