Dear Jaycee Members, Senators, Alumni and Friends,

What a wonderful year we have had working diligently to “Dream Big.” We have tirelessly worked to promote our vision, mission and values, focusing on making an impact and empowering our members to create positive change in their communities.

As we continue our efforts in 2015, I urge you to keep moving the organization forward by hosting great chapter projects that showcase our members creating sustainable solutions for our communities, states, country and the world.

Thank you so much for your dedication and hard work throughout 2014. I am forever honored to have served as the 94th National President of the United States Junior Chamber. Thank you for taking this journey with me!

BzzzTour 2.0BzzzTour 2.0 was a partnership created between the United Nations Foundation/Nothing But Nets and the United States Junior Chamber/JCI USA. It was designed to accomplish three key objectives: fundraising, awareness and advocacy. In 2014, we embarked on a second summer tour led by JCI USA Immediate Past President, Chrystal Ramsay-Dyess. President Fay Poissant and others participated as BzzzTour 2.0 visited 100 chapters in just under three months.

The Purpose The purpose of this tour was to work with chapters and states to promote advocacy of Nothing But Nets.

The TourWe worked with Nothing But Nets and their partners as the team traveled across the country, meeting with Jaycee chapters and participating in their events focused on malaria awareness, prevention and fundraising. In addition, we conducted in-district meetings and town hall meetings with our members, empowering them to advocate on behalf of Nothing But Nets by sharing the Nothing But Nets story with government officials, their staff members and other community members.

Outcome BzzzTour 2.0 raised $50,000 and had over 1,000 advocacy cards submitted. In addition, we held 102 Congressional meetings, traveled to 20 states (and Mexico), had 38 media appearances and visited 100 chapters.

National Meetings

State Presidents’ Retreat (SPR)State Presidents’ Retreat is a 3-day conference designed to train and prepare incoming State Presidents for the job ahead. No application is necessary; all incoming State Presidents are automatically accepted to attend. The 2014 SPR was held December 5 – 8, 2013, at Camp Discovery, in Gainesboro, TN.

State Presidents, along with incoming National Officers, learned about many important subjects, including:

• Effective Communication• Building Strong State Boards• Running Effective Meetings with Parliamentary

Procedure• Meeting with Government Officials• Getting the Most out of a National Officer Visit• Conflict Resolution• Utilizing the Passport to Civic Leadership and Civic

Leadership Certification Programs

Joining the State Presidents and National Officers was 2013 – 2014 US JCI Senate President, Larry Bohn. He shared the importance of our partnership with the Senate, and offered continued support and resources. The US Jaycee Foundation and War Memorial Trust sent representation to discuss how to become donors and how to request for grants for their states and chapters.

Local Presidents’ Summit (LPS)This event, held in St. Louis, MO, January 9 – 12, 2014, brought together Local Chapter Presidents from across the U.S. and Canada for an intensive weekend of training, connecting and collaborating. The theme was “Leading by Example,” and the goal was for the attendees to hone their leadership skills so they could effectively lead their chapters throughout the coming year. Session topics included:

• Running Effective Meetings• Creating Effective Chapter Plans• Building Strong Chapter Boards • Effective Communication with Members,

Potential members, and civic leaders • understanding the membership database,

the website, and other tools and resources

Over 120 attendees participated in the weekend, where in addition to training and fellowship, the participants witnessed the inauguration of the National Officers and were addressed by JCI World President, Shine Bhaskaran. In 2014, JCI Canada joined JCI USA at Local Presidents’ Summit. JCI Canada had their National President and 10 Local Chapter Presidents participate in our training, creating bonds with our fellow members, and truly developing a global network of young active citizens.

The JCI USA National Meetings help our members become stronger leaders, build

membership, network, and provide trainings that our members can take back to

their states and chapters.

Annual Meeting 2014 The Annual Meeting is a conference of fellowship, friendship, education, and fun! The 2014 Annual Meeting was held June 25 – 28, 2014, in Baltimore, Maryland, with over 400 attendees. Highlights of the conference included the election of the 95th National President and six National Vice Presidents, and the recognition of members and chapters for their work in 2013. The signature event of the weekend was our 76th Annual Ten Outstanding Young Americans (TOYA) banquet on Saturday night. The 2014 class of recipients included individuals from all over the country, all committed to creating impact and positive change through their actions. The honorees were: Lauren Beach, Taryn Guerrero Davis, Amelia Rose Earhart, Colmon Elridge III, LCDR Michael Files, Tevan Green, Jennifer Livingston, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., Ruth Riley and Mike Schultz.

Governmental Affairs Leadership Seminar (GALS)GALS returned to Washington DC for the first time since 2008. Held September 27 – 29, 2014, this event gave members the opportunity to work with other organizations, businesses and partners to build resolutions creating positive change in the world. Attendees spent the weekend hearing from amazing speakers on important topics facing today’s young people. This conference also provided the tools young people need to understand how government works and how to leverage those connections to benefit our chapters. JCI USA partnered with United Nations Foundation Nothing But Nets and participated in their Champion Summit which was held in conjunction with our GALS event. Attendees heard from United Nation Foundation speakers who focused on being a champion for the causes you support and learning the importance of grassroots advocacy. Highlights from the weekend included:

• United Nations Foundation Community Speakers• Advocacy Training• Active Citizen Forum• Capitol Hill visits• Fundraising, Community Building, and Social

Media Engagement• Breakout Sessions•

The event concluded with a day on Capitol Hill. Members had the opportunity to meet with their US Senators and Representatives, discussing not only our support of Nothing But Nets and the need for their continued support to end malaria, but also the many impactful things our chapters are doing in our communities.

The US Jaycees Foundation 2014During 2014, the United States Jaycees Foundation continued to support The United States Junior Chamber in a number of ways. An essay contest titled ‘What it means to be a Jaycee’ was conducted by the Foundation, with monetary awards being given to the individuals with the best essays. The judges reviewed all the entries and the top five winners, each receiving a $100 prize, were: Debra Bethard-Caplick (Illinois), Cathy Caldwell (Iowa), Jason Rhodes (Delaware), Jonathan Lederman (Florida) and Terry Kolaz (Illinois). In addition to the essay contest, the Foundation granted funds to the Palatine (Illinois) Jaycees for Disaster Relief, and assisted the Philippine-New York Jaycees in sending funds to Moore, Oklahoma, after a devastating tornado.

The Foundation held several meetings with the War Memorial Trust, discussing the possibility of merging the two organizations together. The Foundation and the Trust have agreed to merge the two organizations and form a single Foundation to be called the US Jaycees Foundation, Inc. At the beginning, all programs will be merged and will be reviewed later to streamline the programs. A date has not yet been determined as to when the merger will be final, but it is anticipated to happen sometime in 2015. In the meantime, the Foundation website will continue to serve as the location for the archives and the endowments will still accept donations along with disaster relief.

The Foundation continues to need your help in collecting, cleaning and organizing the archives of JCI USA / Jaycees / U.S. Junior Chamber. We welcome individuals to submit updates and any additional information for the archives to the Foundation website, www.usjayceefoundation.org.

At the year-end convention in Nashville in March 2015, the Foundation, along with the US Junior Chamber, recognized Mr. Moton Crockett with an Ambassadorship. Moton’s many years of generosity and giving back to the Jaycee organization was acknowledged when he was recognized with the highest honor bestowed by the US Jaycees. Moton is Ambassador #4317.
