Pronouns are also used for things

il is used to replace a masculine noun le livre - il

elle is used to replace a feminine noun la chaise - elle

ils is used to replace a group of masculine nouns les écouteurs - ils

elles is used to replace a group of feminine nouns les gommes - elles

tu vs. vous Use tu with:

a friend a peer a family member a pet a child

Use vous with: a teacher an adult you don’t

know two or more friends a group of people

Verbs

Verbs are action words. In French, new verbs are given in the

infinitive. The infinitive is the base form of the

verb It has the word “to” in the definition

To conjugate regular –er verbs in the present tense

1. Take off the infinitive ending (-er) danser 2. Find the stem (whatever is left after taking

off the infinitive ending)danser

3. Add the correct ending to match the subject

je – etu – esil/elle/on – e

nous – onsvous – ezils/elles -ent

The only endings that are pronounced are –ons and –ez.

The other endings are silent.

To make a sentence negativeAdd ne before the conjugated verb and pas after

Je ne danse pas. Tu ne chantes pas bien. Nous ne parlons pas espagnol.

Change ne to n’ before a vowel

Je n’aime pas chanter. Claire n’étudie pas beaucoup.

Vous n’écoutez pas le jazz?

Je vais au…= I go to…..

Je suis de …= I am in …… grade.
