I decided to peruse the TOPMAN brief because I was excited by the idea of designing for such a huge brand that already had a clear visual style. I was interested in seeing how I could manipulate the brand to incorporate my own style. I enjoyed the idea of combining science with fashion with these being two very different disciplines. I quickly found how different these worlds are as I struggled making a link between the area of science I focused on. I feel the visuals I created still embody the TOPMAN brand and I am happy with the final design of the lookbook. I would have liked to have spent more time finalising more designs to create a wider range of pieces, but in the end my lack of time management led to me running out of time. DRAGONS DEN/ADJUST

ADJUST

For the dragons den part of unit X we chose to take forward our respond for the brief ‘Define a portrait of your generation.’ As a group most of us worked well together, bouncing ideas and conceptual thinking off of each other helped us to gather interesting ideas. The various pitches in class went well and all tutors responded positively to our thinking.

I feel we ended up lost in the conceptual side of our project, as we constantly found our discussions would either cancel out or contradict earlier points made. This led to us not being entirely clear on the story we were telling as we had discussed in great detail for too long.

If we had have

stopped at a definitive point with the conceptual side of the brief our final presentation would have went smoother. It was our ambition to perfect the conceptual side of the project that led to our downfall. The final presentation didn’t run as planned with both me and Roger tripping up over our lines. The judges didn’t respond greatly to our ideas although Ian Anderson seemed to on some level appreciate the points we had made. It was a disappointing response from the judges but ultimately it was a learning curve and I look forward to having the chance to present again.
