Fire Technology Unit II Assignment
Fire HazardA fire hazard is a physical condition that favors fire development.
CombustionCombustion is the process by which fire converts fuel and oxygen into energy.
CardboardMaterial similar to thick, stiff paper, that is made of pressed paper pulp or pasted sheets of paper.
Fuel LoadThe total amount of potential fuel for a fire in a given structure or area.
The Fire TriangleThe three elements essential to the spread of fire include heat,
fuel, and oxygen (Goetsch, 2011).
Fire research has determined that a fourth element exists, a chemical chain reaction is a
necessary component of fire (Goetsch, 2011).

Packing Supply Warehouse
Corrugated cardboard produces an external heat due to its dry condition that accumulates over time in a dry climate, this condition can cause combustion (Earth 911, 2015). (2

Water-based Sprinklers System
According to the U.S. House of Representatives, the use of sprinklers is responsible for a 70-percent reduction in total property damage from fires in public assembly, educational, residential, commercial, industrial, and manufacturing buildings (Monikowski, 2005).

Cost Effective Those costs range from under a dollar to up to $2.50 per square foot--price points that are comparable to the installation of new carpet (Monikowski, 2005).

Reduction of DeathsU.S. Experience with Sprinklers and Other Fire Extinguishing Equipment, states chances of dying in a fire are dramatically reduced by up to 75 percent when sprinklers are used (Monikowski, 2005).

Suppression Systemslimit development and spread of fire
• Suppression sprinklers operate quickly for highly-challenge fires, and are expected to extinguish a fire by releasing a high density of water directly to the base of the fire (Monikowski, 2005).
• Control Mode Sprinkler systems limit fire spread and stunt high heat release (Monikowski, 2005).
• Early Suppression Fast Response sprinklers are designed for high-challenge rack storage and high-pile storage fires. These systems can eliminate the expense and resources needed to install in-rack sprinkler heads(Monikowski, 2005).
In conclusion… The reasons to make the purchase of a fire protection suppression system is to, (i) reduce property damage, (ii) reduce deaths, (iii) reduce fire-spread, and (iv) cost effectiveness as opposed to the cost of damage from a fire.
Today, government gives tax deductions/credits and depreciation incentives to help ease the financial burden associated with installing or performing a fire-safety upgrade to new or an existing business.
