I.  FDR launched the “Second New Deal” and the “Second Hundred Days”

II.  FDR 1st wanted to help farmers – revived the AAA to

assist poor farmers III.  AAA provided more than $1 billion to help farmers end

overproduction and revive American agriculture

I.  FDR also assisted urban workers during his 2nd New Deal

II.  Congress created the Works Progress Administration to help industrial workers

III.  The WPA worked to create as many

industrial jobs as possible as quickly as possible

IV.   The WPA spent $11 billion to give

industrial jobs to 8 million workers

V.  The WPA also hired artists, writers and photographers to create public art

I.  The National Youth Administration (NYA) was created to provide education, jobs and recreation activities for young people

II.  NYA gave America’s youth

employment opportunities and provided relief from the Great Depression

I.  In the 2nd New Deal Congress passed the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) (Wagner Act)

II.  This law protected workers’ rights to

create unions and collectively bargain for better conditions

III.  The NLRA protected workers from unfair business practices and requested minimum wages

IV.   The NLRA tried to get Americans working and out of the Great Depression.

I.  In 1938, Congress passed the Fair Labor Standards Act

A.  Set maximum hours at 44 per week

B.  Minimum wage at 25 cents per hour

C.  Banned hazardous work for children under 18

II.  The FLSA attempted to provide industrial workers with fair salaries
