Unit 2Introduction to Probability
Learning Goal: I can identify examples of the use of probability in the media and
different ways in which probability is represented (fraction, percent, decimal)
What is Probability?
• Probability is the likelihood an event will occur
What are the different ways to show a probability?
• Fraction: number of ways events can occur divided
by number of outcomes
• Decimal: 0. 25 (score out of 1)
• Percent: 25% (score out of 100)

How is probability used in our daily lives?
• Grab a newspaper (& a coffee!) and find and record as many examples as you can.
• If you can think of others off the top of your head, add those to the list as well.
