Unit 1 – Improving Productivity

1.1Why did you use a computer? What other systems / resources could you have used?

Could of used a leaflet or a poster. Also you can use a presentation on the whiteboard. As well you could use a type writer. You could of used a big piece of paper and cut it in to different sections. However I used computer because it makes it more professional and it is easy to access. As paper could be ruined and you can lose it. So with the computer you can save it and you wont use it. I used a computer because I was able to access information from the internet for school website. I also used a computer to use PowerPoint in making a presentation for school. I could of done a poster to advertise at school. I could of used the flipchart have also used flipchart to present my presentation to the audiences.

1.2What skills did you need to learn in order to use PowerPoint?The skills you need to have is how to copy and paste pictures. Also how to add hyperlinks and how it works. Also you need to know how to get information off other internet sites. And how to use slide master. You need to know how to add fonts and also animations and the websites you can get animations from. You need to know how to make it professional. Also you need to know how to add images. Also I needed to learn how to add hyperlinks to make it easy to link slides. I also needed to know how to work slide master.

1.2What resources did you need to make the presentation successful?

The resources you need is other websites and images. Also you need animation and videos. As well you need sound. You also need internet and internet connection. You need to get the images off the internet. I also needed the internet to acess gif files. I Also needed to get a video of the school so I could show the audience what the school looked like inside. I needed a camera to take pictures of the students and the classrooms in the school.

1.4What factors might have affected how well you completed the presentation? (e.g. time / attendance / knowledge of software)

We should have had a bit more time to complete the presentation. More websites to add more information to your PowerPoint. I needed to know knowledge of the PowerPoint software, if I didn’t no how to work this I wouldn’t be able to make a presentation. My punctuality got in the way sometimes, as I missed some lessons, due to illness. Therefore I missed a couple of lessons on the skills and how to use PowerPoint software. It made it a little bit hard for me to understand some of it.

1.6Why did you use PowerPoint to make your presentation? What other software was available? Why did you choose not to use them?

I used PowerPoint because its easier to mange and easy to add pictures and videos. You can also make it professional in a limited amount of time. You can also use word to do a presentation but word is very awkward to move around pictures and information. I used PowerPoint aswell because its mainly for presenting things. I could of used the software publisher to create a leafet to present the school however I didn’t use this. I could of used word to present a letter and send out the letter to parents, but I chose to use PowerPoint because it looked more professhional.

2.2Which tools within PowerPoint made it appropriate for your presentation?

I used slide master where you can add things what look professional. It made it appropriate because it made it look professional and easier to use while presenting it. I used master slide tool to make the slides lay out the same to have a professional look. I added the video so it made the school look ready for learning and fun place to be. I used animation to make and draw my audiences attention.

1.7Were there any legal constraints or local constraints that changed the way you created your presentation? (e.g. copyright, file sizes)

They were restrictions from the copy right images. You had to ask for permission before you get the image. I did get permission for this. Also the file size. You have to make sure the images were not breaking the copyright law. I had to make sure the teachers and the students are allowing for the pictures to be on the presentation. I have to think about the video size so the file is not to big, so I can add more other things. This is because we have a limited space on our college user account.

2.4What improvements do you think you could do to your presentation?

The improvements I could of done were add more animation as there wasn’t a lot. Also I could of added move videos as there easier to present because you can just show the year 6’s the school in a video. More changes that would of improved it was adding more pictures and text. If I added more then it would attract the audience to it and it will make them learn more information about the school. Also if you added more gifs the year 6’s will know the school is fun.

3.2What improvements do you think you could have done to improve your work rate?

I could of done the presentation in a faster time and added more information on the last 2 slides are there only pretty much pictures. Uses shortcuts would of made it faster. I could have saved the hyperlinks for my project to work file and I could have opened it whenever I needed it. I could have improved my work rate by using shortcut keys when copying use CTRL = C and to paste work CTRL= P, this way I could done my work faster.
