RANDY GLORE For many who knew Randy and provided help over the years, I recently re-

ceived an email from a high school classmate who had read of his death in

the paper. She provided some additional information I had never heard.

Randy was a graduate of Fox High School in Arnold, Missouri. She said, on

behalf of Fox High Alumni, she has set up a gofundme account to raise

money to be given to organizations to help cover the costs of his burial

and/or help to care for other homeless people in Randy's memory.

On the gofundme site, she states the purpose of the fund: "Randy Glore was

a Fox High Classmate from 1977. At the end of March 2015, Randy, who

had been homeless for some years, passed away. His body was found be-

hind a dumpster. He died of exposure, cold and alone. An article had been

written a couple years ago about the homeless and his was one of the sto-

ries. In the article written after his death, there are a number of organiza-

tions that either had helped Randy during his homeless years, or helped and

provided for his burial. . . . If you knew Randy and want to help, thank you.

If you didn't know Randy, but want to help those less fortunate, again,

thank you if this is a way you choose to help." If you are interested, you can

donate at http://www.gofundme.com/r7fvfqg.

DEAR WOMEN OF THE CHURCH You are invited to the general meeting of the United Methodist Women

on Wednesday, May 13 at 10:30 in the sanctuary. Our guest speaker will

be Maria Festen, a Wycliffe Bible Translator who has been a missionary in

Africa. Please come and learn more about not only being a missionary but

being a mom and wife living in Africa. You do not have to be a UMW mem-

ber to attend. Our luncheon, after the speaker, will be provided by Thel

Lemons with assistance from the Executive Committee.

Deborah Circle will go to Four Fountains for Share and Care on May 8.

The Elizabeth Circle will host a bake sale in McKinley Fellowship Hall on

April 26 after the 9:00 a.m. worship service. The bakery on sale is home-

made and good for the soul!

THANK YOU to all of the UMW and our youth

who helped with the Friendship

Tea. We also had Girl Scouts from

Trenton helping.

Those who attended were greeted

with music from the Woodwind

Group. The book " Breaking Night"

by Liz Murray, was retold by Mary

Lu Bretsch, a professional story-

teller. After the book review, our

guests were treated to tea and

treats. There were a lot of helpers

behind the scenes who made it all

possible and we give them a

big thank you. Thank you to Jenny

Johnson who orchestrated this

fund raising event to the last pot of

tea!

The money raised from this event

and others by UMW help women,

children and youth in need

throughout the world.

Thank you,

Jane Peters

CROSS WALK WORSHIP IN THE SANCTUARY AT

11:15 AM EVERY SUNDAY I love seeing the spring flowers and budding trees. The

sunrises in the mornings are beautiful. The Creator has

made such wonderful scenery for us to enjoy. He also

made us to be a light to go out in His creation and tell oth-

ers about His greatness. It's time to let your light shine!

"Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-

colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with

this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think

I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light

stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand - shine!

Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others,

you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven."

THANK YOU! The directors, cast and crew of Godspell wish to

thank all those who supported us and helped us

with our Godspell, Junior project: Pastor Ed and

Dick Frette and we thank the musicians and Cheryl Buescher, Kathie Wag-

ner, Becky Keiser, Beth and Karl Walz, and Dave Philip. We thank the con-

gregation for their kind and encouraging comments. We pray we learned

God’s “message,” and we pray you did, too.

A very special thank you to all who

expressed condolences, sent cards

or provided other means of support

to me and my family during the

recent death of my mother. We

were blessed to have her among us

for 97 years and she now rests for-

ever in the loving arms of God. A

great celebration of her life was

held on April 11 in Indiana.

Thank you to all for your kind words and support. God

through this project. We felt the pain of his sacrifice and

the joy of his resurrection and we pray we will “See Him

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN FREEBURG

Thanks to the Rogers family and all who donated, sorted, worked, carried,

shopped, and cleaned up our indoor yard sale. Over $1,000 was raised for

missions!

The adults have started an Andy Stanley study called “Right in the Eye.” He

is both funny and challenging. Please join us! But if you can’t, visit

www.rightintheeye.org to view each session.

A couple of issues ago, I challenged you to pray for your “enemies.” The

angle was a personal one. Remember, the Bible tells us to pray for our

enemies and do good. Not easy.

Now I want to challenge you to pray for enemies we don’t know personally.

Example: ISIS.

I posed this question in my recent monthly ladies accountability group:

How do we pray for ISIS? One answer was straight out of scripture: “Father

forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Good one! I hadn’t

thought of that.

My prayers for ISIS have been more like this because it’s part of my stan-

dard prayer right now for everyone on my list: Lord, draw them closer to

you. Woo them to you. Help them to see others as you see and love them.

And then I’ve added this: Tear down evil and raise up good. This situation

is too big for me, but it’s not too big for God. How can YOU pray for ISIS?

Who are other enemies you can pray for?

BEACON TRIVIA NIGHT

The BEACON Trivia Night which

was snowed out at the end of Feb-

ruary has been rescheduled for

Saturday, May 2, 7:00 p.m., at St

Augustine of Canterbury Catholic

Church. Cost is $12.00 per person,

but if you reserve a table of 8 or

10, you will receive a $2.00 per

person discount. Mayor Mark

Eckert will be Master of Ceremo-

nies.

BEACON is trying to raise money to

help more of the needy in our area

as well as supporting Mayor

Eckert's Homeless Coalition. Bring

your own snacks. Soda, water,

beer and wine will be available for

purchase. There will be a silent

auction of an assortment of gift

baskets and a raffle of desserts -

yummy desserts either homemade

or store-bought by many of our

volunteers.

PARISH NURSE NOTES I hope you had a blessed Easter! If you are like me you are

tired of the cold weather and the sniffles. The average adult in

the US has one to three colds per year. I guess I’m average as I

was sniffling much of the past winter. As a nurse, I am aware

of precautionary measures that are recommended for good

health, including frequent hand-washing, keep a distance from

those who are coughing.

I want to share some things that help me when I have a cold: chicken soup

is at the top of my list. It can be home-made or canned and can assist in

clearing our respiratory tract. Zinc lozenges (like Cold-Ezze) help. They

should only be taken for about a week with your physician’s permission.

For fever or pain, I might try Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) or even Aleve if my

doctor approves. These will also help with muscle soreness, inflammation

or fever. Do not take these if you are allergic to them or their ingredients.

As a child, I recall that when I had a sore throat, my mom used to put a half

teaspoon of table salt into a cup of warm water, stir to dissolve the salt and

encourage me to gargle, spit it out and repeat until it was gone. The old

fashioned remedy used to work, and you know . . .it still does.

When I do get a cold, I stress! I “kick” myself because I think as a nurse I

should be able to AVOID getting a cold. I should use all the precautions I

know. (I am hard on me.) So I must decrease my stress factor! I use medita-

tion. I sit quietly with my eyes closed and direct my attention to breathing

and my God. My mind clears and my body relaxes. I can feel the stress dissi-

pate. Finally I thank God for assisting me to focus on my tasks of the day.

My meditation takes only about five minutes, but it works. I hope our cold

season is over and I am looking forward to beautiful skies and warm

weather ahead of us for several months. Stay cold-free, happy, and safe.

God Bless you!

Your parish nurse,

Carol
