Workshop: The percentage of Canadian children and adolescents who are overweight or obese has climbed considerably over the past 25 years. According to 2001 data, obese children are more likely than non-obese children to face health problems in the shot term. Even more serious health problems await them as adults, since childhood obesity is associated with diabetes, heart disease and other problems (Statistics Canada, 2006.)
This workshop will focus on the importance of incorporating physical activity into daily routines with home based & centre based care. You will receive a bag filled with activities, information, and resources that will assist you in making physical activity fun and easy.

Workshop: It is sometimes challenging as caregivers of children with visual impairment to include everyone in activities such as reading and arts & crafts. Participants in this workshop will learn some simple ways to include everyone in activities that will be fun and educational. They will learn the basics of braille and how to incorporate it into the home or classroom environment easily, as well as exploring some tactile arts and crafts ideas. They will get insight into a world without visual stimulation and learn ways to help children use other senses in a very visual society. This workshop includes make-and-take craft time.

Workshop: Who me? Biases? No….? Few early childhood educators and parents have been prepared to talk with children about race, ethnicity, and other aspects of an anti bias curriculum. Like children, grown ups must learn by doing: by making mistakes, and thinking about it and trying again.
An Anti bias classroom/living requires critical thinking and problem solving, starting with us as adults and teachers. In this workshop we will review the 12 areas of Bias. The goal is to start to better understand biases and to start to recognize potential areas of our personal biases and their affects on others. This is a fun and self reflective workshop that will help us to interact with others in heightened state of awareness.

Workshop: According to the Canadian Incidence Study of Reported Child Abuse and Neglect (CIS-2003), an estimated 49,994 investigations (a rate of 10.51 per 1,000 children) involved exposure to domestic violence. Seventy percent of these investigations were substantiated.
When children are exposed to or witness domestic violence, they are affected. This workshop will discuss domestic violence and the implications for children and those who work with them.
