“Undeniably Different”REUNION2012

CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE

Your 2012 Reunion will make CHC

history. This is the first year we are

welcoming our coed graduates from

the Class of 2007, making this special

Reunion “Undeniably Different” as

their yearbook proclaims. Reunion

Weekend is so much more than

Reunion Luncheon. You’ll find a

variety of activities and events to

keep the weekend interesting,

whether you want to simply relax

and reminisce or take advantage of

a full program of learning, dining,

and entertainment options. Take some

time to look over the programming

options outlined in this booklet, talk

up the activities with your classmates

and friends, and begin planning your

perfect getaway weekend.

CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE

General InformationARRIvAL TImE Reunion registrants will be accommodated on campus after 3 p.m. on Friday. If arriving in the area earlier, please consider enjoying one of the four “Discover Our Chestnut Hill Neighbors” options or a round of golf or tennis at Talamore Country Club in Ambler. Plus, there’s always the King of Prussia Mall — America’s second largest, “the East Coast’s premier shopping destination” — located only 12 miles/20 minutes from campus.

vALET PARkING & STUdENT ASSISTANCEValets will be available to park cars upon arrival and will return keys immediately to the owners. Please wait for returned keys before proceeding with check-in. Students will be available to unload and carry luggage to dorm rooms. Valet service and luggage assistance will be available for arrivals/ departures on Friday from 3 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

fUNCTION ROOmS With the exception of the Rotunda, all rooms used for Reunion Weekend activities and events are now air-conditioned. Lounge, in Fournier Hall.

HOUSINGAlumnae or alumni registering as singles will be housed in the air-conditioned Mary Jackson

Fitzsimmons ’35 Hall, located behind Logue Library and parallel to Fontbonne Hall. Housing requests are honored on a first-come, first-served basis. Following Reunion Weekend tradition, first

preference for rooms is given to the 50th reunion class. The Class of 1962 is asked to reply with suite preferences by May 4, after which triple suites will be available to other classes. Every effort will be made to house classes and friends together, but this cannot be guaranteed. Although everyone who plans to attend reunion must complete the registration process, those who plan to suite together are asked to designate one member to take the additional step of indicating the suite members on her or his reply form.

Spouses, significant others, travel companions, and other adults are now welcome to join alumni throughout the weekend and be housed with the hosting alumna or alumnus in Loyola Lodge at

SugarLoaf Hill. Each room is air-conditioned and contains a private bathroom. Vans will transport those staying in Loyola Lodge to/from main campus activities.

Housing reservations must be made no later than May 15 to ensure on-campus accommodations, linen service, and meals. Those requiring overnight housing after May 15 are urged to contact one of the area hotels (http://www.chc.edu/Alumni/ Reunion/Area_Hotels).

All residence hall accommodations are $75 per

person, per night, including bed & bath linens

and full breakfast the following morning.

Fitzsimmons Hall suites consist of: • Double Suites: 2 bedrooms (2 twin beds per

room), 1 bath, and sitting room for 4 • Triple Suites: 3 bedrooms (2 twin beds per room),

2 baths, and sitting room for 6

Loyola Lodge at SugarLoaf Hill consists of:• Single Rooms (2 twin beds per room), 1 bath

1. “Hemingway on the Big Screen” How lucky you’ll be to examine film adaptations of the works of the larger-than-life, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, journalist, big game hunter, and three-war veteran through the eyes of a Hemingway scholar. Suzanne del Gizzo, assistant professor of English, will direct you through Hollywood’s takes on the master’s extensive work — including The Sun

Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, and To Have and

Have Not — as well as through stage and screen portrayals of this legend’s life, loves, and influences. Professor del Gizzo co-directed the 14th Biennial International Hemingway Society Conference in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2010.

2. “Is This Any Way to Nominate

Presidential Candidates?”

It’s election season, with another primary scheduled only days after Reunion. The formal procedures of choosing a president have not changed much — primaries, caucuses, nominating convention — but the groups that have the power, the length of the process, and the financing involved have created change. Explore the influences brought to bear on today’s electorate with Philip McGovern, 40-year member of CHC’s political science department and specialist in American politics.

3. “Hollywood on the Couch”

From the beginning of film history, the Silver Screen has been filled with depictions of antipsychotics, interesting pathologies, and otherwise intriguing behaviors. Join Meredith Kneavel, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology, who coordinates the College’s undergraduate psychology program

Reaccreditation Process”

Join the co-chairs of the College’s Steering Committee for an overview of the process applied in preparing for the Middle States reaccreditation review, which occurs every 10 years. Vice President for Academic Affairs, Ken Soprano, Ph.D. and Barbara Hogan, Ph.D., associate professor of human services, will share facts, issues, and topics bearing on the two-year preparation phase.

Reunion Weekend’s Saturday sequence of activities — Annual Memorial Mass, Cocktail Reception, Class Pictures, Annual Reunion Luncheon, Class Meetings —are marked by history, tradition, and nostalgia. for Nature in the City, Philadelphia’s Wissahickon

Valley, 1620-2020 (2010), which he co-authored with Carol Franklin, a nationally recognized eco-logical landscape architect. This session features striking slide illustrations throughout Professor Contosta’s review of the triumphs and trials of this beloved urban resource.
