Zetec is the leading supplier of phased array UT systems for the power generation industry.

Using software control, our phased array UT systems allow for the electronic modifi cation

of the acoustic characteristics of phased array probes. Phased array probes are made of multiple

elements. Those elements are excited at slightly different times, allowing the generation of

ultrasound beams of various angles, shapes and focal depths from a single phased array probe.

Also, by multiplexing probe elements, the active aperture can be scanned along the

probe axis without any mechanical movements along that axis.

All these characteristics mean using fewer probes and performing more effective inspections,

for instance by allowing for the replacement of two-axis scan patterns with a single axis scan,

typically improving inspection speed by a factor 5 to 10, and often considerably simplifying the

scanning mechanisms used.

Other benefi ts of phased array UT inspection technologies include better coverage and optimal

focusing throughout the full thickness range of the component, and easier adjustment to actual

fi eld conditions due to software controlled beam angles and profi les.

Zetec’s innovative DYNARAY system completely redefi nes the potential of phased array UT technology by enabling highly effi cient and more fl exible inspection solutions. The DYNARAY system offers superior inspection capabilities on rough and wavy surfaces. Owing to its raw processing power, the system supports position dependant focal laws sent to the phased array probe during the inspection sequence as a function of the probe position.

The Tomoscan III PA system has a world-wide reputation of reliability, performance and fl exibility for high-end phased array UT applications. It interfaces with all Zetec scanners, and is second only to the DYNARAY in terms of fl exibility and power available of any automated inspection system on the market.

Flexible hardware allows the Tomoscan III PA to interface with virtually any manipulator used in typical in-service inspections on reactor pressure vessels, CRDM head penetrations, and pipe welds.

Zetec’s OmniScan meets a wide range of NDE inspection requirements. It offers high acquisition rates and powerful software features in a portable, modular mainframe. It effi ciently performs manual as well as fully-automated PA inspections.

The OmniScan’s solid casing and rubber bumpers make it a rugged instrument that withstands drops and shocks. It can be carried easily and used in harsh fi eld conditions, indoors or outdoors, and operates during six hours on its two Li-ion batteries.

Zetec’s new UltraVision 3 software is a comprehensive ultrasound testing (UT) inspection management package.

UltraVision 3 allows you to design conventional and phased array UT probes, and to effi ciently evaluate their acoustic beam characteristics. It supports the development of inspection techniques, and the assessment of global inspection coverage.

During inspections, UltraVision 3 manages UT signal acquisition from the DYNARAY® phased array system. The new 3-D features include the creation and import of complex components, as well as the visualization of acoustic fi eld data and the actual examination data from those components.

The graphical and numerical features made available in UltraVision 3 allow for fast and reliable interpretation of the acquired phased array UT signals. UltraVision 3 also provides tools to accurately measure the length and through-wall size of fl aws, even in challenging inspection confi gurations.

After analysis, UltraVision 3 provides all the necessary tools to perform effi cient and thorough reporting of inspection parameters and analysis results. UltraVision 3 is fully compatible with previous versions of UltraVision and will generate the same analysis results.

An ideal tool for either challenging onsite inspections or innovative lab work, UltraVision 3 runs on both Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional and Windows Vista. It performs effi ciently on laptop computers and on high-end desktop workstations.

Zetec’s UltraVision 1 software is a powerful and versatile software package that manages acquisition of phased array and conventional UT signals combined with real-time imaging of these signals, as well as offl ine analysis of previously acquired data fi les.

UT > PDI-QUALIFIED PROCEDURES & EQUIPMENT

Detection and characterization of IGSCC (Inter Granular Stress Corrosion Cracking) in austenitic piping welds has been a challenge for BWR-type nuclear power plants for over a decade. Dissimilar metal (DM) welds have also recently become a major concern since PWSCC (Primary Water Stress Corrosion Cracking) was found in nozzle-to-pipe welds in PWR-type nuclear plants worldwide. Nuclear regulatory bodies, including the NRC in the United States, have mandated the use of qualifi ed procedures for in-service inspections (ISI) of piping welds susceptible to IGSCC and PWSCC.

To address these regulations, Zetec has developed qualifi ed solutions for encoded, manually driven, phased array, UT examination for homogeneous (carbon steel and stainless steel) and DM piping welds.

The qualifi cation for austenitic and ferritic piping welds (obtained at PDI according to ASME Code Section XI, Appendix VIII, Supplements 2 and 3) covers detection and length sizing in ferritic and austenitic piping welds, from 12” to 36” NPS, and for wall thicknesses from 0.6” to 3.0”.

The qualifi cation for DM welds (obtained at PDI according to ASME Code Section XI, Appendix VIII, Supplement 10) covers detection, length sizing and through-wall sizing of circumferential and axial cracks in dissimilar metal piping welds from the outside surface, for diameters 1.5” NPS and up, and for wall thicknesses from 0.210” to 6.50“ (5.3 to 165.1 mm). The procedure is applicable for DM welds in both PWR and BWR nuclear plants and was the fi rst one qualifi ed for Supplement 10 that uses phased array UT technology.

Zetec offers complete equipment kits (phased array equipment, software, scanner, probes, wedges, cabling) to conduct in-service inspections according to the qualifi ed procedures. Both procedures were developed in collaboration with EPRI, and are commercially available to our customers. We also offer basic training about the hardware and software, as well as dedicated analysis training in preparation of a PDI qualifi cation.

Surface Inspections with ECA Probes

ECA probes use a number of individual coils grouped together in one assembly. The coils work

together to scan a wider inspection area than conventional probes. Data from ECA probes is

transmitted directly from the probe to computer memory for record keeping and graphic, color-

coded reports.

Coils can be mounted on fl exible substrates that adapt to irregular surfaces. These probes

can be used to inspect critical surfaces and surface junctions on pipes, pressure vessels, turbines,

and other mission-critical infrastructure. In many applications, ECA testing can replace liquid dye

penetrant or magnetic particle testing and eliminate the time and effort of surface preparation.

ECA probes eliminate one axis of motion by using multiple coils to cover a wider area

and increase the inspection rate. In many cases, a simpler, lower-cost, one-axis manual scanner

can replace two-axis automated scanners. ECAs can be built in the exact shape of a particular

part for simplifi ed, one-pass inspections.

The MS 5800 also handles Eddy Current Array Probes with up to 64 channels. This technology allows fast and effi cient inspection of surfaces with Eddy Current. Encoder inputs record the probe position for accurate imaging of the inspections in C-scan displays.

Acquisition and analysis are both performed from a standard computer using Zetec’s ECVision or MultiView software. Both software packages allow for high volume data storage on any PC-compatible media.

Zetec’s MultiScan MS 5800 is a portable, multitechnology NDE (nondestructive evaluation) instrument. It’s suitable for many applications, including tube inspection with standard ECT bobbins or rotating probes (MRPC®). In addition to ECT, the MS 5800 also has options for Remote Field Eddy Current (RFT), Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL), and UT for corrosion mapping of tubes. Each one of these technologies provides unique capabilities that allow using the best technology for the inspection situation. For automated inspections, the MS 5800 is compatible with probe pushers and scanners. Two built-in encoder inputs record probe position for accurate location of detected fl aws.

Zetec’s TC7700 is an advanced eddy current instrument designed for inspecting components using eddy current array probes.

Eddy Current Array probes have a large number of coils and can generate from 10 to 50 times more data than standard ET probes. Multiplexers permit a large number of eddy current channels to be input to an eddy current tester possessing a limited number of physical inputs. This makes eddy current array probes possible and is accomplished by time multiplexing the large number of eddy current signals generated from the probe.

Quality Information

Maintaining a high level of quality for our products and services is of utmost importance to Zetec. Our quality system is designed to ensure that we consistently provide you with the highest quality products and services. Zetec’s quality system has been ISO 9001 compliant since 1994. We currently maintain an ISO 9001 registration covering our hardware and software products in addition to our inspection services. We also maintain an ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for nondestructive testing services and our Quality System meets the 10CFR50 Appendix B quality assurance criteria for the nuclear power industry.

Product Warranties

All Zetec products, including consumables, are delivered with Zetec’s promise to provide goods that are manufactured to be suitable for their intended purpose, functional and free from defects as per the agreed conditions of sale.

Major electronic and mechanical equipment is warranted to the original purchaser against defects in material and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of shipment.

Probes, cables and spare parts are considered consumables and are therefore warranted to the original purchaser at delivery to be free of defects in material, workmanship and to meet the specifi c design requirements and pass the specifi c quality checks at time of manufacture.

Customer paid equipment repair will be warranted for 90 days (parts and labor). This warranty is limited to failures in the areas related to the subject repair. The customer is responsible and will be charged for the recalibration of equipment where the calibration has been voided by the repair activity.

O.E.M. equipment not manufactured by Zetec will be covered by the original manufacturer’s warranty.

Zetec does not warrant against defects caused by damage, misuse, abnormal operating conditions, alterations or conditions of nature such as fi re, fl ood, wind and lightning.

Any non-conforming item shall be subject to repair, replacement or refund at Zetec’s option if such conditions are identifi ed within 30 days of the initial shipment.

Equipment warranty does not include periodic calibration or normal maintenance as described in the Zetec operating manuals. All returned merchandise must be sent freight prepaid by buyer, properly boxed to prevent damage in transit and be accompanied by a Zetec issued Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number.
