Welcome to dwt!

What to consider when purchasing an awning: Different camping habits mean a variety of demands on your awning. Be-fore you start planning, you should ask yourself the following questions:

How will your awning be set up and where? Will it be on a long-term site for years? Is it on a specific site in the main season but is in storage over the winter? Or will it be used for touring and have to withstand storms, wind or even snow? Depending on how and where your awning will be set up, the dwt range has a variety of awning models and frame alternatives ready and waiting for you. We process all materials suitable for the construction of awnings and offer alternatives to standard frames so that you can select the best choice for your needs. More information on the subject of frames can be found on page 31.

dwt-Zelte: Quality from Germany!

We have been developing awning products since 1986 – from the initial concept to the finished product. The highest quality standards, tradition and continuity are equally as important as innovation and the permanent development of our range. Commitment to detail and precision are the principles of our production philosophy.

We have our own definition of location commitment.

We are committed to the German site. A major part of awning production (from cutting through to sewing, final inspections and frame production) takes place on our production halls in Niesky. As an exemplary apprenticeship company, we successfully work exclusively with trained workers – for top quality from Germany.

Our own production – from awning membrane to frame:

Our own production – from awning membrane to frame: dwt awnings are hand-made and are required to pass the strictest quality tests. When dealing with the frame for your dwt awning, we like to rely upon ourselves: we have produced steel and aluminium frames in our own production since 2008. We are always working on our innovative ideas – the dwt Vario Clip system, which saves painstaking tightening of screws, is one example.

This insider tip is now enthusiastically used by hundreds of campers. With professional expertise and extensive know-how, our team of more than 60 employees works every day to make sure that the name dwt stands for high quality awning products. After all, we want to make sure that your camping holiday is relaxing from the very first day.

It’s even easier online: at www.dwt-zelte.com you will find a practical size calculator. It automatically determines the awning size required for your vehicle in a few easy steps.

The right frame for “your“ camping holidayThe dwt frame options give you the opportunity of reacting to different local conditions and adapting your frame to suit the respective use.

We recommend that long-term campers pay attention to stability so that the awning defies wind and weather for long periods.

Touring campers should be ready to face the weather at the respective destination. This might include inserting ad-ditional poles if there are strong winds on the coast. If you change locations frequently, frames which are simple and uncomplicated to erect are an advantage. Dwt awnings are equipped with high-quality steel/aluminium frames as standard.

1 Aluminium tube2 Anodized layer

Aluminium the lighter alternative...In comparison to 25mm steel tube frames, anodised 28mm aluminium frames show 50% less packing weight on the scales. This makes them the perfect alternative for touring campers. The easily erectable frames are available in the following thicknesses:For normal weather conditions• 28 x 1 mm diameterFor extreme weather conditions • 32 x 1,5 mm diameter

For special safety: 28 x 1.0mm sized aluminium frames are equipped with the dwt locking system (DLS) as standard

GripStop – saves the painstaking securing of screwsSwap clamps and screws for the GripStop! It makes handling the frames much easier: in-stead of painstaking securing the screws simply press on the intelligent clamp mechanism. The pole is not misshapen and the surface of the tube remains undamaged; suitable for steel and aluminium frames. More information is available in our extras in page 31!

Measure accurately! Before measuring, make sure that your caravan is positioned on an even surface.• If the caravan is placed on a raised awning inner floor, measure the upper edge of the inner floor.• If the caravan is lower than the upper edge of the inner floor, measure from the ground level• If the awning floor is in front of the caravan, begin your measurement from the height where the wheel’s stand space is.

Use an inextensible rope for accurate measurements!

Size recommendationdwt sizes of awnings for your caravan…In our size recommendation you will find our selections for your caravan with reference to your make, year of construction and model. After determining the size, always speak to a dwt specialist dealer and check your data.

The dwt size recommendation is the safe way to the right awning size. How to determine the orbital dimensions too:

How to determine

the partial retraction dimensions for partially retracted awnings; measure from ground point A through the channel strip to the point at which your awning should end and the side wall should end vertically (point B).

How to determine

the orbital dimensions when the awning and sunroofs are fully retracted: measure from ground point A through the channel strip, span over the caravan and end at ground point B.

Steel Strong as steel... The electro-galvanised steel tube poles are particularly suitable for season and long-term sites, offer the best pos-sible safety and are available in the following thicknesses:For normal weather conditions• 25 x 1 mm diameter• 28 x 1 mm diameterFor extreme weather conditions• 32 x 1,5 mm diameter

Tear-resistance, water pressure resistance, non-fade and weather-proof features play an important role in the production of dwt awnings. Stringent production guidelines and ongoing material tests by independent institutes also ensure consistently high production standards.

Background information on awning materials:

PVC-coated fabric• Suitability: all-season awnings, winter awnings, roof areas of all awning categories, side and front wall areas of all-season and seasonal awnings• Composition: both sides (inside and out) PVC-coated trevira/polyester fabric• Advantages: fully leak-proof, tear-resistant, rot-proof, resistant to spores• Disadvantages: increased condensation formation is possible; not breathable• Note: matter or high-gloss coatings make cleaning easier

trailtex• Suitability: sunroofs, light touring awnings, suitable for some seasonal awnings• Composition: synthetic basic fabric, generally in different thicknesses, PU-coated on one side• Advantages: light, watertight, translucent, easy to clean, some permeability to vapour• Disadvantages: condensation formation is possible, low flexibility, needs more time to dry• Note: the roof area must have a sufficient coating thickness

Leacrylic• Suitability: all-season awnings, seasonal awnings, side and front wall areas of touring awnings, some suitability for winter awnings• Composition: synthetic fibre fabric, various thickness classes, optically comparable with natural cotton fibre• Advantages: fully rot-proof, permeable to vapour, non-fade, water and oil repellent impregnation• Disadvantages: constantly high stretching and low reformation• Note: tested for UV-protection depending upon the fabric manufacturer

Polyester• Suitability: supporting fabric for areas (with the respective coating)• Composition: synthetic fibres• Advantages: non-fade and weatherproof, tear-resistant, resilient to UV, hard wearing against moisture and bacteria• Disadvantages: due to the leak-proof nature, this can lead to increased formation of condensation. • Note: due to high density of the material, a hydrostatic head of 1500mm is sufficient for normal applications.

Window films• Composition: polyvinyl chloride (transparent or in different colours)• Advantages: rot-proof• Note: they offer up to 90% UV protection. The suppleness depends upon the thickness and hardness level

The right material is important

On the basis of these requirements, which we impose on ourselves and criti-cally monitor, we develop a suitable product for all types of holiday and travel for our customers to satisfy every demand and to suit every budget. From awnings or porch awnings for touring or seasonal camping, from cam-per van awnings to sun canopies.

Convincing design.Redefining the awning. This is how the dwt creative team produce new design ideas for awning design again and again. We are always open to new suggestions. For example, the “Curve” product, which features superb de-sign, was developed by students at the Technical University of Dresden.

From the drawing board to the campsite – a look behind the scenes.

Development / designWe traditionally create our designs on the drawing board. Then the parts are entered in a CAD system which calculates the precise cuts optimised to suit the fabric widths.

Cutting material and partsA computer-controlled cutter cuts the various parts using a vacuum to produce perfectly clean cuts. Depending on the material, the machine can cut up to 60 layers in one cycle.

Initial finishingThe various parts for each model and size are fitted with eyelets, zip fasteners and other accessories.

Sewing shop / finishingThe workers produce complete components (side and front walls) and therefore have expertise in the entire process; regardless of whether it is a standard model or a bespoke mode.

Final production workIndividual parts are joined – known in trade circles as the “marriage”. Then they undergo the final in-spection. At the end, the finished awning has all the accessories, such as curtains and guy ropes, exactly as it is supplied to you.

Quality controlsPro Tag werden 10 Prozent der Zelte aus der laufenden Produktion aufgebaut und auf Passgenauigkeit und Fertigungsdetails überprüft.

dwt awnings are hand-made. This means that not only can we guarantee our employees a varied range of work but also increase their sense of responsibility and identification with the product. With skilled competence and extensive expertise, our team helps to ensure that the name dwt today stands for awning products of the very highest quality.

We still prefer to rely on ourselves. An awning is more than just a membrane. The frame and membrane form the mutual basis of any awning. With the integrated frame production in Niesky, we can now offer frames from our own production. The advantages for the customer are obvious:

• highest quality assurance due to dwt quality management • “Made in Germany” quality seal • Expansion of the range e.g. with various clamping mechanisms • Your wishes can be fulfilled more quickly and market trends can be implemented earlier

dwt awning production in Nieskydwt-Zelte Niesky GmbH is located in the middle of Oberlausitz in Niesky in East Saxony. We develop, design and produce dwt awnings on a site measuring 10,000 square metres. Vario Clip elements (special version) offer user con-venience and safety; painstaking tightening of screws is a thing of the past! The special roof railing is pre-equipped as standard. The Vario Clip elements are recommended for fixing additional roof poles. More information is available on page 31.

The fully detachable front wall not only makes assembly of the awning easier, but also makes an excellent sunroof.

Size 1 Size 2 – 6

Special support poles with sewn-on foam edging (included) ensure perfect sealing.

The upper ventilation flaps in both side walls now enable better air exchange, and can be closed in case of strong winds.

The bolted wall eyelet prevents the roof pole slipping on to the wall of the caravan and bringing the awning down with it. This usually happens if there are side winds. Additional poles can be secured in the roof using Vario clips (available at a supplement).

With its carefully matched material combination of a washable roof and high-quality leacrylic walls, the Bristol model is suitable for touring and seasonal camping alike. The attractive appearance, the comfortable ambience with beautiful curtains, the practical side entrances and the wide range of sizes make this model a popular all-round holiday companion.

Material: roof: fully synthetic, coated on the outside, waterproof, UV-resistant, easy to clean. Side walls/front wall: leacrylic fabric approx. 300 g/m2, spinneret-dyed, weatherproof and non-fade, window film has high UV-stability and is resistant to cold; splash and mudguards are made of polyester fabric coated on both sides, washable and weather-resistant.Front wall: 1-piece, veranda effect possible, with curtains.Side walls: with window incl. curtains, entrance door and sewn-on high-volume foam edging for optimum sealing of the side walls to the caravan; the upper ventilation flaps on both sides reduce condensation and can be closed.Frame: 25 x 1 mm steel, galvanised and chrome-plated incl. two support poles for the foam padding.

Important info: from size 2 upwards, the awning becomes narrower at the top; the roof width is 25cm narrower than the floor width.

The front wall can be rolled down to form a veranda.

Horizontal hollow seams with Velcro fasteners serve the purpose of fixing storm poles/veran-da poles for stabilisation against the wind.

This awning breathes.

Cheerful curtainsCurtains not only protect the interior from the sun and curious glances, but also ensure a comfortable atmos-phere. We therefore fit our canopies with curtains with coloured designs. If you would like a different type of curtain for your awning other than that fitted as standard, you have the choice of all 11 designs for an extra charge.

Internal ceilingThe textile internal ceiling made of cotton fabric creates a pleasant homely atmosphere in the awning. It reduces condensation and reduces the interior temperature.

Safety Strap Plus For added stability! The push-in fastener is provided with all complete and partial awnings. Tensioning is undertaken with a strong tension spring, which regulates the tension of the strap, while an iron ground spike provides the necessary hold. For storm roofs without a front projection the belt eyelet is placed over the spine of the awning frame. A scuff guard be-tween the eyelet and fabric protects the roof from mechanical damage.

Safety Strap Plus XL The same as Safety Strap Plus, but in an extra-long 320 cm version.
