A different proposal in which 2 concepts are highlighted: exclusivity and luxury. The exclusivity comes with our access and ability, we have developed bonds with family owned and boutique wineries who open their doors in a special way, giving an authentic and personalized tour. The experience is complemented with a five star service with the confidence of our asociate providers . The visits have been delicately designed to satisfy your interests and rhythms, this way a unique wine tasting will be enjoyed. Located 180 km (110 mi) south of capital city Santiago, the southernmost portion of the town of Rapel, where the Colchagua Valley stands as Chile’s best known wine region. It has received much praise for its full-bodied red wines. Cabernet Sauvignon accounts for more than 40% of all varieties planted, but the Colchagua Valley also has earned much applause for its renowned Cabernet, Carménère, Syrah, and Malbec, as others of its wines regularly appear high on the world’s lists of leading wines.

The main town of the Colchagua Valley, Santa Cruz, is just a half-hour farther south. Anchoring its main square is a hotel-casino that also houses the Colchagua Museum, an eclectic collection of local fossils and archaeological finds, antique cars and trains, jewelry and more, all assembled by an eccentric Chilean tycoon.

Page 11: UDP Encounters SEP2014 - City, University of London

Santa Cruz is a good start from which to visit nearby wineries with recognizable names like Casa Lapostolle, which is owned by the same family that owns Grand Marnier. Perched on a hill outside town it’s showcase winery, resembling an enormous bird’s nest, where they make their high-end Clos Apalta and Borobo labels. Lapostolle’s cantina is like a site-specific art installation, spiraling underground five floors, and then opening up in a vaulted tasting room with a glass floor suspended over rows of the family’s most prized vintages, including bottles from around the world. The building’s complicated design contrasts with the winery’s simpler process: grapes are still hand-harvested by local women; the resulting juice is only slightly filtered, creating a very light but flavorful final product.

Each private terrace offers an ideal setting for quiet contemplation or intimate meals. The Residence, where the living and dining rooms are located, has a wonderful atmosphere where you can share your experience with fellow travelers. Our cuisine enhances the natural flavors from Chile and uses the local products from our organic vegetable and herb garden and also the local fresh markets from the area.

With extraordinary views of the Apalta vineyards and the surrounding mountains, Lapostolle Residence is the perfect place to enjoy nature with sophistication. The best wines that Chile has to offer belong to these vineyards and are found in the Colchagua Valley. Over the mountain from the Lapostolle estate, we found ourselves immersed into Viña Vik where a new generation of winemakers has successfully started to wrestle great quality out of bountiful grapes, applying an Old World artisanal approach to New World conditions.

We invite you to discover a unique and exceptional one-of-a-kind vineyard, with a holistic concept that will leave you enthused. Here you will find a new way of looking at the terroirs, the vineyard and without a doubt you will find the passion required in creating a superb wine that will leave you in awe.

Situated in a privileged location with exceptional views, the guest house is available for our guests to experience. With an inspired design, the house is minimal, modern and connected to nature in a way that provides quality.

From your bed you can see the majestic Cordillera of the Andes, the beautiful reservoir, the magnificent vineyard, and the entire hacienda. All these details, with a personalized attention will make you return to VIK. The architecture for the VIK winery takes into account the scale of production of ultra premium wines in an innovative and bold way

The winery is a great structure that is mostly buried in the middle of the land that surrounds it, to obtain significant energy savings and limited visual impact, leaving the vineyard as the main character of the landscape. Walking through the winery, you will understand the distinguishing needs of each one of the steps in the wine production process.

There are plenty of wine activities in the area. Wine tours are specially designed for those who are just starting their journey into the world of wine, as well as for those who have already become wine fanatics. You can learn the secrets of the Colchagua

Arrive at one of the central region’s most important seaside cities, Valparaiso, Chile’s principal port and a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical importance, architectural layout and natural beauty. Picturesque Valparaiso has many monuments and quaint colorful houses but most unique are the funiculars (acensores) found throughout the city. Use of these dates back to 1883 when they were built as a way for the local people to travel back and forth between their homes set high in the local hillsides. Visit the Valparaiso residence of Chile’s Nobel Prize-winning poet, Pablo Neruda, “La Sebastiana.” The house is filled to the brim with keepsakes of this eccentric genius including mementos from his many travels and an extensive library. Enjoy lunch (a la carte) at a local restaurant in Valparaiso before continuing on to Viña del Mar another seaside town. The small bay and hills that protect Zapallar from the wind create an extraordinary microclimate. It is also famous for its tall trees, stunning summer residences, gorgeous gardens and stone church. Take time out to walk the stone path that runs along the sea to Cachagua and Maitencillo. After a day at the beach we will take you back to you hotel in Valparaiso. We will recommend a restaurant for dinner. Day 4 Valparaiso/Santiago Breakfast, and return to Santiago, stopping en route at a winery for wine tastings and lunch. We will head towards the Casablanca Valley, which is located between the Coastal Mountain range and the Pacific Ocean. Vineyards have grown here since 1875, but

only since the 1980’s was the true potential of this Valley discovered, when, it was determine that the soils and the conditions were in many ways similar to the Napa and Sonoma Valleys in California. This valley is located in a temperate climate zone with semiarid tendencies, characterized by alternating short, relatively rainy winters and long, continually dry summers. The valley is oriented in such a way that daily ocean breezes cool the grapes on the vines and result in intensely fruity wines. The tallness and massiveness of the coastal range create a unique topography that causes striking daily and seasonal air current changes in the valley thus generating a very special micro climate. Additionally, very favorable sunlight conditions influence the grape ripening process, creating unique conditions that provide its wines with special features. The Vineyard you will visit was designed by their team in cooperation with the architect Lawrence Odfjell. It is a state-of-the-art wine-making facility, constructed so as to complement its glorious setting. In other words, harmony has been reached between the winery´s organic agricultural practices and the natural landscape of the valley. This winery, which has a 300 thousand-liter capacity, relies on a gravitational-flow design that optimizes management of the grapes brought in from the nearby vineyards. During your tour, you will learn about the different phases of wine production while appreciating stunning views of the vineyards and the beautiful Rosario Valley. After our tour, you will first enjoy a delicious Chilean lunch served in the vineyard´s restaurant attended by a prestigious chef. You’ll be spending the night at an Australian/English owned small friendly boutique hotel situated in Bellavista, Providencia is truly a distinctive urban retreat that lets one escape from the buzz of the city. It is a transformed space with 15 beautifully appointed en-suite bedrooms, each with a unique character and most with balconies and terraces.
