    Mr. UDALL of Colorado introduced the following bill; which was read twiceand referred to the Committee onllllllllll

    A BILL

    To authorize the Federal Emergency Management Agency

    to award mitigation financial assistance in certain areas

    affected by wildfires.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1

    tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,2

    SECTION 1. WILDFIRE MITIGATION ASSISTANCE.3

    (a) IN GENERAL.Section 420 of the Robert T.4

    Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act5

    (42 U.S.C. 5187) is amended6

    (1) by redesignating subsection (d) as sub-7

    section (e); and8

    (2) by inserting after subsection (c) the fol-9

    lowing:10

    (d) POST DISASTER MITIGATION ASSISTANCE.1

    The President may provide hazard mitigation assistance2

    in accordance with section 404 in any area in which assist-3

    ance was provided under this section, whether or not a4

    major disaster had been declared..5

    (b) CONFORMING AMENDMENTS.The Robert T.6

    Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act7

    (42 U.S.C. 5121 et seq.) is amended8

    (1) in section 404(a) (42 U.S.C. 5170c(a))9

    (A) by inserting before the first period ,10

    or any area in which assistance was provided11

    under section 420; and12

    (B) in the third sentence, by inserting or13

    event under section 420 after major disaster14

    each place that term appears; and15

    (2) in section 322 (e)(1) (42 U.S.C.16

    5165(e)(1)), by inserting or event under section17

    420 after major disaster each place that term18

    appears.19
