QUICK FACTS

AMONG THE BEST IN THE LEAGUE The UCF soball team set a program-record Wednes-day night when five members of the squad were selected to All-Conference USA teams. Sophomore Tiffany Lane garnered All-C-USA First Team honors, marking the third-straight season the Knights have had at least one player on the team. Breanne Javier and Abby McClain both grabbed spots on the All-C-USA Second Team, while Natalie Land and Vanessa Perez were selected to the C-USA All-Freshman Team. The Black and Gold ed Houston for the second-most All-C-USA selecons this season, while regular-season champion Tulsa paced the league with eight selec-ons.

CONTINUING HER REIGN ON TOP Sophomore Tiffany Lane connues to share the na-onal lead for triples in 2009 heading into the Knights’ final C-USA regular-season series this weekend. The speedy shortstop has eight triples on the season, a mark that matches Southern University’s Audrey Phil-lips and Monmouth’s Emily deLong for the top spot in the naon. Lane belted her eighth triple of the year, a three-RBI shot, in the C-USA series finale against Mar-shall at the UCF Soball Complex on April 11. Lane also bested her single-season record from 2008 with the three-bagger, while also taking sole possession of the No. 3 spot on the C-USA all-me register, with the triple marking 15 for her career.

NO. 1 IN THE NATION Not many people can say that they lead the naon in anything, but every member of the UCF soball team can now say that they do. The Knights turned seven double plays last week over the course of four games to surpass Oklahoma State for the naonal lead in double-plays turned per game. The Black and Gold carry a 0.60 double-plays per game average heading into the C-USA Championship presented by Helen of Troy.

300 WINS FOR KNIGHTS, GILLISPIE With its nightcap win over Houston on April 19, the UCF soball team and head coach Renee Luers-Gil-lispie earned their 300th win in their eighth year as a program at the Division I level. The Knights and Gil-lispie then extended their all-me record to 305-209-1 with their doubleheader sweep over UTEP on Satur-day aernoon.

C-USA HITTER OF THE WEEK Aer pung together a remarkable performance at the plate this weekend for the UCF soball team, sophomore Tiffany Lane has been tabbed Conference USA’s Hier of the Week, the league office announced on Monday morning. The weekly honor is Lane’s first in 2009 and the second of her career. She also earned the disncon on March 17, 2008. Lane recorded a .727 bang average, going 8-for-11 at the plate with five RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases in the league series against UTEP last weekend. The sopho-more tallied a .818 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage during the series, while accounng for seven of UCF’s 11 total runs on the weekend.

OUT OF POSITION Freshman Natalie Land made her 11th start at short-stop for UCF on Sunday in Memphis, in place of an in-jured Tiffany Lane. When Land has received the start-ing nod at shortstop in 2009, the Black and Gold are a remarkable 9-2.

MOVING TO THE FRONT With eight three-hit games under her belt in her soph-omore season, Abby McClain surpassed Stephanie Best for the program record for three-hit games in a season. McClain set the record with a two-out, two-RBI, walk-off double in the eighth inning to give the Knights the league-series win against Southern Miss on April 5. Best, who previously held the record, had seven three-hit games as a sophomore in 2003.

KNIGHTS’ RECORD WHEN....

BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW...

LAY IT DOWN Junior Ashleigh Cole put her name at the top of the re-cord books on April 5, aer laying down three sacrifice bunts in the series finale against the Golden Eagles. The trio of sacrifice hits matched Cici Alvarez’s record-seng mark for sacs in a game set on Feb. 24, 2007 against George Mason.

CONTINUING TO CLOSE THE GAP With three hits in UCF’s final C-USA road game of the season against Memphis on Sunday, senior Breanne Javier has now totaled 56 hits on the season. The first baseman connues to close in on the No. 2 spot on the program’s all-me register, sing only 23 hits away from matching Jania Shinhoster for the second-most hits in UCF soball history. 500...AGAIN Last season, head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie reached 500 wins in her career as a head coach with a win over league-foe, UAB. With the Knights’ win over Southern Miss on April 10, the skipper once again reached the milestone of 500. Gillispie recorded her 500th win at the Division I level in the nightcap of Saturday’s doubleheader and now holds a 510-384-3 record at college’s top-level.

CUSA PITCHER OF THE WEEK Aer posng a 3-0 record with one save, junior Ash-leigh Cole was named Conference USA’s Pitcher of the Week on March 2. The junior allowed only five earned runs in 26.1 innings pitched for a 1.33 ERA to help the UCF soball team to a 6-1 record. The weekly honor was the first for Cole in 2009 and the first of her ca-reer.

IN THE NO. 9 SPOT When bang in the ninth spot in the Knights’ bang order this season, freshman Natalie Land leads the team with a .378 bang average. In 17 games started in the final spot in the order, Land has also tallied 17 hits, nine runs, three doubles and a home run. UCF is also 10-7 when Land bats ninth.

• Both Abby McClain and Natalie Land were their high school Valedicorians.

• Mary Helen Tyler played for assistant coach Jen-nifer Whitley at Tallahassee Community College for two seasons.

• The Knights randomly hold team dance compe-ons throughout the season.

NEW SURROUNDINGS In the final game of the Knights’ series at Memphis, sophomore Tiffany Lane got a different view of the field. UCF’s usual starng shortstop, Lane started the contest as the le fielder. Having missed two games earlier in the week because of an injury, Lane started the second game as the DP, before roaming the out-field for the first me in her collegiate career in the nightcap.

UNTOUCHABLE AFTER SIX If the Black and Gold has a lead heading into the sev-enth inning of a contest, its opponent is more than likely out of luck in coming back to win the contest. The Knights are 22-0 this season when leading its op-ponent aer six innings. UCF’s defense has allowed only 13 runs to its opponents in the seventh inning this season, while scoring 34 runs of its own in the sixth frame, its most for any inning.

STREAKER Senior Lindsay Dean enters the C-USA Championship presented by Helen of Troy with a season-high five game hing steak, which began in the second game of the Memphis series on April 25. The catcher had both game-winning RBI in the Knights’ series win over UTEP last weekend, while adding three runs and a sac-rifice hit. During the streak, Dean is bang .385 (5-for-13) with a home rund, four runs scored, three RBI and a sacrifice fly.

IN THE C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP The Knights are 6-2 all-me in the C-USA Champion-ship aer sweeping through the tournament last season with wins over Southern Miss, UTEP and host Houston to claim the championship crown and earn the league’s automac bid into the NCAA Tournament. UCF posted a 3-2 record in the event it hosted at the UCF Soball Complex in 2007, defeang Marshall, Tulsa and East Carolina to make it to the semi-finals.

PICKING UP THEIR GAME WHEN IT COUNTS The Knights have earned eight C-USA Championship All-Tournament Team selecons all-me, while in-cluded a program-record five selecons last season when they took home the championship tle. Tiffany Lane earned tournament MVP honors for her play throughout the event, which included a 3-for-4, home run, two run, two RBI performance at the plate in the-championship game vs. Houston. Also garnering all-tournament team honors were pitcher Allison Kime, first baseman Breanne Javier, third baseman Hillary Barrow and right fielder Marquita Council. Kime and Javier also made the squad in 2007, while CiCi Alvarez earned a spot on the team the same year.

C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP RECORD BOOKS The Knights made their mark on the C-USA Champion-ship record books on their way to the league-tourna-ment crown in 2008, postng a tournament record for bang average in a series, recording a .342 team clip in the three-game event. Allison Kime’s 24 strikeouts over the weekend were the second-most all-me in a C-USA tournament series, with the record sing at 25. It also set a program record for strikeouts in the C-USA Championship, one-upping her 23 strikeouts from 2007. Also tying for second place in the all-me record books were Tiffany Lane in both hits (7) and total bases (11), and Abby McClain with a pair of dou-bles.

WINNING WAYS Going into this weekend’s C-USA tournament, the Black and Gold have accumulated a 19-9 record in league-tournaments, including a 5-1 snt and the league-crown in the ASun Tournament in 2005. The Knights went 3-0 in 2008 and have posted a 3-2 record in post-season tournaments three different mes, which included their semi-final run in the C-USA event in 2007.

FIRST IN C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY UCF’s appearance in the championship game in 2008 marked the first me in program history that it had made it to the finals of the C-USA Soball Champion-ship, falling one run short of the feat in 2007. Aer failing to make the tournament in their first season in the league in 2006, the Knights made a run at the con-ference-tournament crown at the UCF Soball Com-plex in 07, before falling to East Carolina, 1-0, in 12 innings in the semi-final contest.
